Welcome! Today, we embark on an exciting journey through the world of FFC cable installation for the ET-8550. For those who are not familiar, FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) cables are an integral component of many electronic devices. They are widely used in printers such as the Epson ET-8550.

In the digital age where DIY (do-it-yourself) practices are gaining popularity, knowing how to handle FFC cables can save you time and money. Plus, it's always satisfying to fix things on your own. Part 2: Getting Your FFC Cable

First things first, you need the right cable. Visit BCH Technologies' website. Navigate through the menu: Printer Parts > Epson > Electronic Board Assembly. You will find a wide variety of FFC cables available for different models. Click on FFC cable, and you will find the one specifically designed for the ET-8550.

Part 3: Preparing for Installation

Once you have your FFC cable, Abby, our lab expert, will take you through the process. Do bear in mind that this recording is taking place in a lab, so expect some ambient noise.

Begin by sliding the individual ends of the FFC cables through the iron core clip. These ends will connect to the main board of the printer. Fold over the FFC cables and insert them into the clips at the front of the printer. The cables should be clearly labeled (left top, left bottom, right top, right bottom) for easy identification during installation.

Part 4: Securing and Positioning the FFC Cables

Next, ensure that the longer cable (the left cable) is placed in front. This is because it needs to fit into the printhead area correctly. The cables should be guided through a plastic guide to prevent them from tangling when the printhead moves. We will also need a third, thinner FFC cable for the CSIC board at the back of the carriage.

Part 5: Installation of the Main Board and FFC Cables

Once the cables are correctly positioned, install them into the main board. The long one goes in first, followed by the shorter one in between the CSIC FFC cable and the longer left FFC cable. This arrangement allows the cables to fit together perfectly.

In this guide, we use old FFC cables to guide us in positioning the new ones. After observing another ET-8550, we use double-sided tape to secure the long FFC cable against the back of the carriage.

Part 6: Final Steps and Testing

With the printhead securely in place, it's time to connect all wires and cables to the main board. While the task may seem daunting due to the many connections, with a clear understanding of what the main board and the connectors look like, you will be able to fit everything in its right place.

Once all the connections are in place, don't forget to connect the control panel to the printer using the FFC cables and the white connection cable.

Lastly, power on the printer to test if the printhead moves correctly. If it stops abruptly and returns to the home position, consider cleaning the encoder strip. This process can be seen in the video below, detailing how we resolved the problem in our lab.
