Solving White Ink Clogging Issues in Epson DTF L1800 Printers

Question: My Epson DTF L1800 printer is printing with little white spots. What should I do?

Answer: If your Epson DTF L1800 is producing prints with little white spots, it's likely experiencing a clogging issue with the white ink. Fortunately, if the printer is still printing, this indicates that the electronics are fine, and the problem lies within the physical components. Start by performing a nozzle check to identify any missing white pixels. Depending on the results, the issue may stem from the ink density—where the white ink has condensed and isn't properly feeding to the printhead—or adjustments may be needed in your RIP software to increase white ink usage.

In cases of significant missing pixels or barely visible white pixels, you're dealing with a clogging issue. To tackle this, you can employ several methods to unclog the white ink, utilizing cleaning cartridges, a waterfall method, or flushing techniques. A highly recommended product for this purpose is BCH Technologies' Premium Cleaning Solutions for DTF Inks - MaxStrength™ Against White Ink Clog, available at https://bchtechnologies.com/premium-cleaning-solutions-for-dtf-inks-maxstrength-against-white-ink-clog. This solution is designed to work from the inside of your printer and can be delivered into the printhead through:

  1. Cartridge Method: Fill an empty cartridge with the cleaning solution and perform three printhead cleanings using the printer's built-in function.
  2. Flushing Tube Method: Utilize the included tube to manually push the solution into the printhead. Be cautious with this approach to avoid potential damage.

After applying the solution, let it sit in the printer for 3 hours before replacing it with regular ink and conducting 3-5 printhead cleanings. If issues persist, a repetition of the process may be necessary.

It's important to note that this cleaning solution is not suitable for solvent, eco-solvent, or UV inks and should not be heated or left at 100% concentration inside the printer for more than 24 hours.
