How to Add Third-Party Inks into Epson EcoTank: A Step-by-Step Guide

Printing costs can be a significant expense, especially if you're someone who prints frequently or in large quantities. Fortunately, there are ways to cut down on those costs, such as adding third-party inks into your Epson EcoTank printer. In this article, we'll show you a step-by-step guide on how to do just that.

Before we begin, it's essential to note that adding third-party inks into your Epson EcoTank printer may void your warranty. If your printer is still under warranty, it's best to stick with Epson's inks. However, if your printer is out of warranty, adding third-party inks can be a cost-effective solution.

Let's get started. First, gather the tools you'll need. You'll need ink for your printer, refill ink for Epson, all dye ink, and standard four-color ink. You'll also need tubing, such as four-millimeter IV tubing or larger. You can find tubing in accessories.

Now, take a look at the ink tank. Epson's patent divides the tank into two sections, one for ink intake and the other for air vent. The ink comes in and goes through a series of channels, then gets dumped inside. The air vent has a sponge to prevent ink backflow and a series of chambers to prevent immediate ink flow even if you turn the printer upside down.

To add third-party inks, you'll need to connect the ink intake with a bottle using a tube. First, attach a tube into the ink intake. Then attach the tube to the bottle. Make sure to use a tube with an outer diameter of six, as this is the diameter of the ink intake. If you can't find a tube with that diameter, you can use a four-millimeter tube, but it will be a bit of a stretch. We suggest making the tube length longer than what is shown in the video.

Next, gently squeeze and release the bottle. This action expands the diaphragms, pushing air into the ink bottle and exchanging ink and air. Be careful not to push too hard, or you risk breaking the diaphragm, which can lead to ink leakage.

It's important to note that you don't need to take your printer apart to add third-party inks. You can do it directly on your printer, following the same steps shown in the video.

Adding third-party inks into your Epson EcoTank printer can be an effective way to save on printing costs. Just be aware that it may void your warranty if your printer is still under warranty. If you're out of warranty, follow the steps outlined in this article and our accompanying video to start saving money on your printing costs today.
