ET-8550 PF Drive Gear – Standard OEM-Size or XL Extended-Grip Version
$12.99 $19.99
Replacement PF Drive Gear for the Epson EcoTank ET-8550.
This gear is installed on the PF (Paper Feed) rod/shaft and transfers mechanical drive to several important assemblies, including the capping station, transmission slider / change gear mechanism, LD assembly, rear frame hopper / sheet-feeding mechanism, duplexer, and other linked mechanical components.
Common ET-8550 Failure: Transportation Error / Printhead Locked at Capping Station
A common problem with this gear is that it can slide outward and move out of its proper position on the PF rod.
When this happens, the PF Drive Gear can no longer properly engage and drive the capping station gear. The capping station then remains engaged with the printhead, leaving the printhead physically locked or parked in the capping station.
During startup, the printer attempts to release and move the printhead. Because the capping mechanism cannot disengage correctly, the carriage cannot complete its normal movement and the Epson may report a Transportation Error.
In many cases, pushing the PF Drive Gear back into position temporarily restores operation. However, after the gear has slipped out and been pushed back multiple times, the fit can become loose and the problem may continue to return.
Two Versions Available
Standard - OEM Size
The Standard version matches the dimensions of the original OEM PF Drive Gear and is intended as a direct replacement.
Best for printers where the PF rod still provides a firm fit and the original gear has not repeatedly worked itself loose.
XL - Extended Grip
The XL version is slightly longer than the OEM gear, providing more contact area with the PF rod.
The longer design gives the gear a better grip on the shaft and is intended to help address the common problem of the PF Drive Gear repeatedly sliding out of position.
We recommend the XL version when:
The original gear repeatedly slips outward
You have already pushed the original gear back several times
The gear no longer fits tightly on the PF rod
The printer repeatedly develops a Transportation Error because the capping station cannot release the printhead
Possible Symptoms
A displaced or loose PF Drive Gear may cause:
Epson Transportation Error
Printhead/carriage locked in the capping station
Carriage unable to move during startup
Capping station failing to disengage
PF rod turning without driving the capping station mechanism
Gear repeatedly sliding out of position
Clicking, skipping, grinding, or abnormal startup noises
Problems with the LD assembly, rear sheet-feed hopper, duplexer, or other PF-driven mechanical components
Compatibility
Designed for the Epson EcoTank ET-8550.
This listing is for the PF Drive Gear only. Other gears, capping station components, transmission assemblies, LD assemblies, hopper components, and duplexer parts are not included unless specifically stated.

Best thing ever!! i used to put cleaning solution in the capping station with a syringe/hose then had to suck out f the wast line with a syringe.... over and over until the capping station was clean. maybe up to 10 times. now i just use maybe 1 or 2 - 30ml syringes full of water and the pump cleans it out so good.... then I put capping solution, place printhead over capping station and turn on the back of the machine. thats it. when i print again, usually next day, I pull from waste tank a few times until I get ink, then i run 1 head cleaning , print a test strip and usually good to go. I sometimes print a 2nd test strip. SO MUCH easier to use this little pump. so glad I bought it.

TMS Printhead Maintenance System by BCH: Comprehensive Cleaning and Maintenance Solution
This is a must have modification to save time troubleshooting. You will need to download Kevin's capping station video to disassemble the capping station. A definite must. You will also need a few other connections to hook this up. All parts are linked in his videos. Pro tip. Have patience and go slow. This modification will save you from a lot of headaches . I did this mod on Procolored L1800 about a year old . Thanks Kevin.
