Question
My Epson 2720 EcoTank printer seems to have a clog at the fill site, as the black ink will not fill, even though the ink level shows it's not full. What could be causing this issue, and how can I fix it?
Answer:
If the black ink is not filling in properly, there's a host of reasons that could be causing the issue. There are a few things to check and try:
The mismatch of third-party ink bottles
Often the cause of the problem if using third party ink bottles. (The little plastic tab that seals various third-party bottles may not match the EcoTank’s corresponding valve perfectly, causing the ink not to flow.) One simple solution is to take the ink bottle out of the tank, flip it 180 degrees, and gently put it back in. This action may reposition the valve mechanism so that the ink begins to flow again.
Tapping the Ink Bottle
If the ink still isn’t reaching the bottom, give the top of the bottle a quick tap while it’s still inserted into the tank. You should hear a soft click, as the ink begins to flow. It causes the right pressure to build to move the ink into the reservoir. If it works, it means the obstruction was just because of improper pressurizing or air bubbles blocking the flow.
Check for Dried Ink or Debris
If you use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) ink bottles, but the problems still apply, it would be good to confirm whether dried ink and debris is causing the blockage through the tank valve and the tip of the bottle. Ink can dry and block itself, preventing ink from flowing well into the tank over time. If it is still clogged, then clean the valve area and tip of the bottle to make sure there are no obstructions.
Additional Troubleshooting
If the above steps did not help, below are some other possible causes you can check. As an example, the EcoTank’s ink refill system uses air pressure to force ink into the tank. If the air vent in the ink tank is clogged or faulty, the ink cannot be filled. However, you can try to clean the vent to see if that resolves the issue or replace the ink bottle if required.

As some users are hands on, printer issues are tricky to deal with. Therefore, we cannot offer any remote troubleshooting or tips or products to help you fix a printer. For local customers, we provide on-site assessment and repair through our immediate diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service), where we work on a first come, first serve basis because of the high volume. So, you'll get your printer drop to you in a few weeks. Our services are such that we can repair a whole printer or parts thereof, and all of it is disclaimed in advance. However, we must admit that we are not the cheapest out there. So we strongly suggest you turn to self help by doing research online. A good place to begin is YouTube and give our YouTube channel homepage a visit (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) the search icon on the right-hand side of the menu bar really helps navigate for specific videos, locate videos by specific topics. I get dozens of requests each day for topic-specific videos. I have made a lot of videos over the years and it is hard to recall in detail every single one. So you might want to use YouTube’s search function to find it more quickly. And YouTube could recommend relevant videos from creators not associated with you that might help you out.
