Question:
Why does my Epson WorkForce WF-7620 intermittently stop during large 11x17 photo prints with “Cartridge Not Recognized,” even though the refillable cartridges are full? It happens with two refillable sets but not with genuine Epson cartridges.

A full ink tank does not rule out a cartridge-recognition problem. On the WF-7620, an intermittent “Cartridge Not Recognized” message may involve a cartridge chip losing communication, incomplete seating, incompatible refillable cartridges or chips, or a printer-side contact issue. The fact that it occurs with refillables but not genuine Epson cartridges makes cartridge or chip compatibility worth checking, but it does not confirm the cause. Ask the supplier to confirm that the cartridge system and chips are specifically compatible with the WF-7620, and note whether the printer identifies a particular color.
If the error appears, stop the job and use the printer’s normal power controls before reseating cartridges. Inspect the cartridge chips and carriage contacts for ink, debris, or visible damage. Avoid bending the contacts or applying liquid; gentle cleaning with a dry, lint-free material is safer. Then run a short test print before committing another expensive 11x17 sheet. Repeated interruptions can waste ink and media, so do not rely on a long job until the issue is stable.
If the message continues with confirmed compatible cartridges, the carriage contacts or printer electronics may need diagnosis.
