Resolving Epson Printer Error 034004

Question:

A couple weeks ago I had a nasty run in with my Epson ET-8550 printer that serves double duty for my small business. I am so anal about this it made me crazy, but despite the maintenance of my printer I started to see black ink smudges on some prints. I tried to clean it, but when turned the machine off and unpluged with left side printhead, i saw error "Printer error 034004". No paper jam, I makes sure of that. I like to use a heavy cardstock or sticker paper that doesn't shred well. I think its a printhead lock issue. This printer is a pretty big investment for my business, so I would rather fix it than replace. What should I do?

Answer:

Thank you for reaching BCH Technologies Thank you for getting involved, thank you for your time and support but like especially our YouTube channel [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]. Your feedback motivates us to improve our technical acumen. So, let us discuss this error code in a little detail for your Epson ET-8550 printer.

Understanding Error 034004: The error code "034004" usually means that there is a paper jam or an obstacle inside the printhead mechanism. While this error is considered in the list of "Insoluble paper jam errors," the reasons behind it can vary, particularly if you are using a model such as Epson ET-8550, which comes with a complicated APG platen control. Some of the reasons are as follows:

Foreign Object Obstruction: it may be possible that if a tiny piece of debris has obstructed the path of this unit, then you can consider encountering this error. Check to see that the paper path and/or printhead is clean; nothing should slide up and down a pair of rails for example.

Main Frame Deformation: In which things bend on your printer's main frame over time or due to poor handling. This bending can lead to the printhead going out of alignment and causing issues such as error code 034004.

Automatic Paper Guideline (APG) with Change Lever Failure: The Epjson ET-8550 comes equipped with an Automatic Platen Gap, which is integrated into the paper handling and printhead movement mechanism. If this bar goes wrong or gets out of phase, it can cause performance errors.

Paper Jam Sensor Failure: You may have checked and found no jams, but the sensor that detects a jam might not work properly. This might make the printer think there is an obstruction when it can be open.

 Possible Solutions

Because of the elaborate nature of this abnormality, here is a list upon which you can arrive based on all levels and probably fix it.

Park your printhead on the right: Your printhead may be reset simply by powering up your printer with the carriage parked on the right. The printer will take that time to readjust its machinery, which could only be the issue if all that was really wrong with it was printing out of balance.

Inspect / By Hand: Check to make sure nothing is obstructing the printhead's movement. Check thoroughly for debris or small blockages that you might have missed the first time around.

Verify the APG Lever. The manual movement of the Printhead can misalign the APG guide and cause it to be misadjusted. Ensure that if you can see this lever, it is operable and in line with the movement of the printhead.

Take Your Printer To Professional Inspection: If nothing works, it is advised to take your printer for a complete professional inspection. BCH Technologies staff will check the main frame deformation, APG lever, and printhead functional operation.
