Procolored L1800 Printhead Replacement: Genuine Epson OEM Options, Pricing, and Compatibility

Question

Do you sell an official Procolored L1800 printhead on your website? If so, how much does it cost, and how can I confirm that it will work with my printer?

Answer

There is not technically an "official Procolored printhead" because Procolored does not manufacture the printhead itself. Printers sold under the Procolored brand generally use printheads manufactured by Epson or another printhead manufacturer. Procolored integrates those components into its printer systems.

Therefore, if you specifically want a printhead supplied and supported by Procolored, the most direct option would be to purchase it from Procolored. However, the underlying printhead may still be an Epson-manufactured component rather than a printhead made by Procolored.

BCH Technologies sells genuine Epson OEM printheads for L1800- and 1390-based printers. Depending on current inventory, the listing may offer brand-new, refurbished, Grade A used, or Grade B used options. You can view the available conditions and current prices on our Epson L1800 and 1390 printhead product page [https://bchtechnologies.com/products/no-return-printhead-for-epson-1390-1400-1410-1430-l1800-l-18001500w-artisan-1430-dtf-dtg-sublimation].

At the time of this response, the price depends on the selected condition. The listing shows lower-priced used options and a brand-new option priced as high as approximately $519.99. Because inventory, condition choices, and prices may change, please use the option selector directly above the "Add to Cart" button to see the exact current price for each available printhead. Confirm the Actual Printhead Before Ordering

It is very important not to purchase the printhead based only on the printer's exterior label or the seller's description. Many third-party DTF printers are advertised as "L1800-based" or "1390-based," but that description sometimes refers only to the mainboard, firmware, carriage system, or general printer platform.

Some machines use an L1800 or 1390 mainboard together with a conversion PCB that allows the printer to operate an L805- or L800-style printhead. In that situation, a genuine L1800 printhead may not fit or connect correctly, even though the printer was advertised as an L1800-based machine.

The safest method is to inspect the printhead cables and count the electrical contacts.

An Epson L1800 or Epson 1390 printhead normally uses:

  • A wide data cable with 27 contacts

  • A smaller power cable with 9 contacts

An Epson L805 or Epson L800 printhead normally uses:

  • A narrower data cable with 23 contacts

  • A power cable with 13 contacts

Please count the exposed conductive contacts on the end of each small flat-flex cable. Do not count the visible printed lines farther back on the cable, because those markings can sometimes be misleading.

L1800 and 1390 Printhead Compatibility

The Epson L1800 and Epson Stylus 1390 use the same basic printhead. Therefore:

  • The Epson L1800 uses the same printhead as the Epson 1390.

  • The Epson 1390 uses the same printhead as the Epson L1800.

The BCH listing is intended for the following Epson printer platforms:

  • Epson Artisan 1400

  • Epson Artisan 1410

  • Epson Artisan 1430

  • Epson Artisan 1500W

  • Epson Stylus 1390

  • Epson L1800

  • Many third-party DTF printers genuinely built around an L1800 or 1390 printhead system

Third-party printers sold by Procolored, Punehod, and similar brands may use this printhead when the machine is truly built on an L1800 or 1390 platform. However, compatibility cannot be guaranteed from the brand name alone. These companies may revise their designs over time or use different printheads in printers that have similar model names.

L1800 and L805 Printheads Are Not Interchangeable

The L1800 printhead is not the same as an L805 or L800 printhead. They have different cable configurations and electrical connections. Trying to force an incompatible cable into a connector can damage the cable, printhead, conversion board, or printer mainboard.

Please double-check the printer and printhead before purchasing. This is especially important because the BCH printhead listing is marked as a no-return and no-warranty product. The listing is intended for technicians and experienced users who understand printhead replacement and can independently verify compatibility before ordering. (BCH Technologies)

Check the Printer Before Installing a Replacement

A replacement printhead should not be installed until the cause of the original failure has been identified. Printheads can fail because of more than age or clogging.

Before installing another printhead, inspect the following:

  • Printhead cables for burned contacts, corrosion, tears, or ink contamination

  • Mainboard printhead fuses and driver components

  • Conversion boards and cable adapters

  • Dampers, ink lines, and manifolds for air leaks or restricted ink flow

  • The capping station for proper sealing and suction

  • The waste pump and waste lines for blockages

  • White-ink circulation systems for sediment or clogged tubing

  • Ink quality and compatibility

  • The printhead carriage for fluid leaks or electrical contamination

If the original printhead failed electrically because of a damaged cable, shorted mainboard component, liquid spill, or incorrect cable installation, installing a new printhead without correcting the underlying problem can immediately damage the replacement.

Likewise, if the old printhead clogged because of settled white ink, dried DTF ink, poor circulation, or a malfunctioning capping station, a new printhead may develop the same problem unless the ink-delivery and maintenance systems are repaired first.

Turn off the printer and disconnect it from power before handling the printhead cables. The cables should be inserted completely straight, with the conductive contacts facing the correct direction. A reversed, crooked, or partially inserted cable can create a short circuit and damage both the printhead and the mainboard.

Addressing printer issues can be complicated because accurate diagnosis often requires hands-on inspection, measurements, disassembly, and testing. For this reason, we are unable to provide individualized remote troubleshooting, repair instructions, or technical support for printer repairs. We do offer in-person evaluation and repair through our local printer diagnostic and repair facility [https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service]. Due to high demand, repairs are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take several weeks before we can accept a printer for drop-off. Our services are organized to repair either an entire printer or certain individual components, with instructions provided on the service page. We also recognize that professional repair may not be the most economical option for every customer, so we strongly encourage independent research and self-help resources. You can begin with YouTube or visit the homepage of our BCH Technologies YouTube channel [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]. To locate a particular video, use the search icon near the "About" section on the right side of the channel menu. We receive dozens of questions each day asking whether we have videos covering particular topics. Because we have produced repair videos for more than nine years, it is difficult to remember every video individually. Using the channel's search function is usually the fastest approach, and YouTube may also recommend useful videos from other creators.

Thank you again for contacting BCH Technologies and for taking the time to verify the correct part before purchasing. Careful identification of the printhead and cable configuration can prevent an expensive ordering mistake and protect both the replacement printhead and the printer's electronics.
