Question:
Thank you for the great video! My HP Envy 4516 printer displays "remove and install cartridge" every time I insert my HP 63 black cartridge. I've tried multiple times, but it always shows an "X" on the ink level and the cartridge isn't working. What should I do?
Answer:
Your HP Envy 4516 not recognizing the HP 63 black cartridge might be one of the reasons. First, let us see the connection of the cartridge with the printer: Take the cartridge out of the printer and pull the electronic ribbon on the cartridge. If you know of any ink spills, gently clean up with a paper towel—the brass pins inside the printer where the cartridge hooks should also be clean and dry. You can try re-seating the cartridge a couple of times to see if it'll get a better connection and have the printer recognize it.
If your printer still doesn't detect the cartridge after trying these, then it's probably the cartridge itself that is defective. Cartridges such as HP 63 are single-use and may shut down as the cartridges fail to pass the internal resistance test. Now, the printer measures a reference resistor in the cartridge to compare the resistance of this to the nozzles. If the difference in resistance is too significant, the printer marks the cartridge as defective and refuses to use it. Sadly, there is no repair for this, and the cartridge must be replaced.
If you want replacement cartridges, I suggest searching on eBay for "empty virgin HP 63 cartridges." Such cartridges are new and good for refilling. Steer clear of remanufactured " cured cartridges simply because " so many of them have faulty chips that might not work properly, especially not after coming into contact with moisture. Sometimes, recycled cartridges can also have problems with their nozzles. The cleanest, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or "virgin" cartridges will yield the best results.
