Question:
I replaced the waste ink pad on my Epson EcoTank ET-2750. The new pad looks identical to the original Epson one, and my prints are perfect without downloading the reset software (which is hard to find without paying high fees). Since the waste ink tank has a chip, does the printer still need to be reset with the €9 software key, or is the reset automatic?
Answer:
The Epson EcoTank ET-2750 waste ink pad system can be confusing because Epson uses two different approaches:
-
Waste Ink Tank with a Chip (Maintenance Box Type)
-
If the waste ink container has a chip attached, the reset process does not require external software. The chip is designed to automatically reset the printer's waste counter once a new tank is installed.
-
In this case, the best solution is to simply replace the entire waste ink tank (also called a maintenance box) with a new Epson original. Once installed, the printer automatically recognizes the new unit, and the counter is reset without you having to buy or download software.
-
Attempting to use reset software with a chipped tank is unnecessary, and in most cases, it won't work. Save your money and avoid the frustration of unreliable reset keys.
-
-
Waste Ink Pad Without a Chip (Built-in Pad Models)
-
On some Epson printers, especially older EcoTank units, the waste ink pad does not have a chip. Instead, the counter must be reset via a software tool.
-
If your printer falls into this category, you'll need to verify whether your model is supported on sites such as inkchip.net. Before buying a reset key, run a connection test (like the one shown in our video tutorial) to confirm your printer communicates properly with the software.
-
If it passes the test, you can safely purchase a reset key (around €9) and reset the waste counter.

Why Epson Uses Chips
-
Epson began embedding chips in maintenance boxes to make replacement easier for users, but also to control serviceability. This means you won't have to deal with reset software, but it also ties you to purchasing genuine waste tanks.
-
While it may seem "absurd" at first, the chip actually simplifies the process-installation of a new tank automatically clears the error and lets you continue printing.
-
In summary:
-
If you see a chip on the waste ink tank, replacement is automatic, and no reset software is needed.
-
If you don't see a chip, then a reset utility with a paid key may be necessary.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We do, however, provide an in-person evaluation and repair service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Because of high demand, this service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and may take several weeks before we can take in your unit.
