Question:
I’m having trouble with the white ink in my printer. I swapped the white ink with yellow ink, and it printed fine, which tells me the printhead is good. However, when I try to pull ink from the tube connected to the tank, no ink comes out. What can I do to fix this?
Identifying the Problem
Since swapping the white damper with a yellow damper resulted in successful prints, we can confidently rule out any issues with the printhead itself. This indicates that the problem lies somewhere within the white ink delivery system. Based on your description, the most likely culprit is a clogged white ink line.
Steps to Diagnose and Fix the Issue
-
Check the White Ink Line for Clogs:
- Remove the white ink damper from the printhead.
- Manually attempt to suck ink from the line leading to the damper’s outlet using a syringe.
- If you feel total resistance and no ink is pulled through, the white ink line is likely clogged.
-
Replace the White Ink Line:
If the ink line is clogged, it will need to be replaced. Clogs in white ink lines are common due to the heavier pigments in white ink, which tend to settle and solidify over time. To replace the line:- Disconnect the clogged ink tube from the ink tank and damper.
- Install a new ink tube.
-
Upgrade to a Drag Chain System:
To prevent similar issues in the future, consider upgrading to a drag chain system. A drag chain organizes and protects all your ink tubes, making it easier to replace individual tubes when needed. This setup is especially useful for printers like the Epson L1800, XP-15000, or ET-8550.You can check out a pre-configured drag chain system for A3 DTF and DTG printers on our website: Drag Chain Tube Guide for A3 DTF/DTG Printers (https://bchtechnologies.com/products/drag-chain-tube-guide-26-inches-660-mm-pre-configured-for-a3-dtf-dtg-printers-l1800-xp-15000-et8550-1390-but-adjustable-length-1).
-
Maintain the Ink System Regularly:
- White ink requires frequent agitation to keep pigments evenly suspended. Install an ink circulation system or manually shake the ink tank daily to prevent sedimentation.
- Flush and clean the ink lines regularly to avoid buildup.
