Question:
My Epson 7880 says a cartridge is not installed. How do I access the internal 9-pin CSIC chip board to install or replace it? Does the top or rear cover need to come off?

Thank you for contacting BCH Technologies. We are sorry we could not answer sooner. Printer problems can be urgent, but we want to give each question careful thought and provide a detailed answer. Thank you for supporting BCH Technologies and the BCH Technologies YouTube channel.
The cartridge chip and the printer’s CSIC board are separate components. The cartridge chip in this question has seven pins; the internal CSIC board that reads cartridge chips is a nine-pin board. Confirm the exact replacement part and printer compatibility before ordering, because confusing the cartridge chip with the reader board can lead to replacing the wrong item.
The proposed guidance for the Epson Stylus Pro 7880 is that access to the CSIC holder requires printhead removal; removing only the rear or top cover does not provide the required access. Printhead removal is a significant service procedure: the carriage, ink connections, and delicate flat-flex cables can be damaged if handled incorrectly. Turn the printer off and unplug it before service, and do not pull the printhead or force the carriage through resistance. Follow model-specific service instructions and keep track of cable routing and connectors.
Before disassembly, perform basic checks: confirm the cartridge is fully seated, inspect its chip contacts for ink or debris, and verify that the cartridge is the correct type for the 7880. If the printer continues to report no cartridge, the fault may be in the cartridge chip, CSIC contacts, reader board, or connection; the message alone does not prove which part failed. Avoid repeatedly inserting cartridges with damaged or contaminated contacts.
