Question:
My printer shows a paper-jam code, but I cannot see any paper and the mechanism does not move at all. The related video is about the Epson ET-15000, although I have not confirmed whether my printer is the same model or provided the exact code. What should I check?
Answer:
Thank you for contacting BCH Technologies, and please accept our apologies that we could not answer sooner. We know printer problems are often urgent, but we want to give each question careful thought and provide a detailed answer. A paper-jam message with no visible paper and no mechanism movement does not identify a failed part by itself. The video covers the Epson ET-15000, but the correct diagnosis depends on the exact printer model and the complete code shown on its display. Similar-looking Epson printers can use different sensors, gear trains, and startup sequences.
Turn the printer off, unplug it, and remove the paper cassette. Inspect the accessible front, rear, duplex, and feed paths for torn scraps, labels, foreign objects, or paper packed under a roller. Use a flashlight and avoid reaching into areas that are not safely accessible. Check that visible paper-sensor flags move freely and return to their normal positions, but do not force the carriage, gears, rollers, or sensor levers.
If nothing moves when the printer starts, the cause may be more than a paper obstruction. Possible causes include a jammed feed mechanism, a displaced sensor flag, a damaged gear or coupling, a motor or cable problem, a carriage obstruction, or an electronic fault. These are possible causes, not confirmed diagnoses. A paper-jam code can appear when the printer does not detect the expected movement within a set time, even when no sheet is present.
Avoid repeatedly powering the printer on if it clicks, grinds, strains, or remains completely still. Repeated attempts can damage gears, motors, belts, or the mainboard. Do not replace a sensor or motor based only on the message. First record the exact model and full error code, and, if safe, take a short startup video showing the display and the mechanism's behavior.
If the printer still does not move after accessible paper paths and visible sensor flags have been checked, professional diagnosis is recommended. BCH Technologies can assist with printer and board-level repair; visit BCH Technologies [https://bchtechnologies.com].
