Troubleshooting Refilled HP Ink Cartridge Recognition Issues

Question:
I have since bought a 100 ml of BCH black ink. Everything was working normally when I had my older HP pc. But, with my new HP computer the printer actually now knows when you fill the ink carts back up— it says nope I am not going to register that as full in there and prints like a dog. I have reinstalled the cartridges and reset the printer, the same as running a clean installation of HP Smart app again with no luck.. What more am I supposed to do to solve this problem?

We appreciate your reaching out to us with your concerns. Thank you for your support and engagement with BCH Technologies, particularly via our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). On the other hand, many HP printer users also often encounter this problem when the HP printer does not recognize refilled ink cartridges. HP cartridges come with a chip that tracks how much ink they are using; HP printers are famously terrible at recognizing the correct ink level when you refill them with third-party help. Annoyingly, refilling the cartridge does not reset this chip, and your printer could still be emptied. In this article, we will discuss many elaborate solutions for this issue:
1. Ignore the Ink Level Warning
Many HP printers offer an override to the low ink warning. When your printer tells you that your ink is low, find a dialogue button or other key like “Continue” or “Ignore.” Also, a few HP printers will have an option to “I have already replaced the cartridge.” Checking this will skip the ink-level warning and allow the printer to operate normally.
This is a great solution for most users, as long as you can get by with printing reminders, even though it may be annoying to see the ink low alert all the time. But if the print quality does not improve or the printer still refuses to print, you will need to move on to a couple more steps.
2. The first option (most accessible) is to use an ink cartridge reset tool
Resetting an ink cartridge is a huge savings for people who constantly replace them. Third-party tools can be bought, and they are explicitly made to reset the chip on HP cartridges. We do not make or sell these tools; you can search for them on Google or eBay. By resetting the chip, we tell the printer that it is a brand-new cartridge, and it recognizes its actual status (the rest of the ink). Then, you encounter the dreaded problem of your printer not reading your refilled cartridges as complete and forcing you to fill them up again.
3. Set "Single Cartridge Mode" to ON
Most HP printers have a single-cartridge mode in which the printer works with only one cartridge. This mode can help disable cartridges that are not recognized by the printer, and it may help you print further just in case one of the cartridges is not working.
A standard example is that you are allowed to print with the black cartridge, making colors inert and inactive. When you refill both cartridges constantly and neither works, you might want to switch between the two and check if that solves the problem. Simply changing products will often cause the printer to re-assess how much ink is in a cartridge, which may convince it that freshly refilled cartridges are now full.
4. Turn off HP Cartridge Protection
HP printers come with a built-in function called Cartridge Protection, which prevents the use of refilled or third-party cartridges. If your printer still doesn't recognize your refilled cartridge, you should verify the status of Cartridge Protection and turn it off if needed.
Disable Cartridge Protection from the following: HP Smart App (Open HP Smart app > Printer setting > Cartridge protection). Once it is disabled, restart your printer.
Using the Printer Control Panel: If your printer has a screen, you can use your printer's control panel to toggle “Cartridge Protection” off or on as needed.
Disabling this function allows the printer to perform better with refilled cartridges and third-party ink.
5. Use HP Diagnostic Tools
HP offers different diagnostic tools that can be useful in resolving issues with Ink cartridges. HP Print and Scan Doctor (the Most Popular One): It is available for download from HP's official website.
This tool is offline-attributive and will help you find out about troubles with your printer hardware or software or that there is a little ink in the cartridges. When you install the software on your computer, it also runs and shows everything automatically. It can be extra beneficial if your printer is flashing error codes or still refusing to identify ink levels even after having those topped up.
6. Manual Chip Replacement: If the chip on your cartridge is dead, none of the above would be of any use. In that case, you might want to consider buying a new chip for your cartridge.
The change chips are available from different resellers; attaching them to the cartridge is plug-and-play. When you insert the new chip into the same cartridge, the solution will identify it as a new digital cartridge and change its state regarding ink level.
7. Cartridge Rotation
Most HP printers would have a running memory range of the last 3 to 5 cartridges used. It can cause some trouble if you always restock a similar fillable cartridge. Another thing you may try is cartridge rotation.
You can get around this issue by maintaining and rotating several cartridges, which will confuse the printer into thinking they are new and thus reset their levels. In other cases with a refilled cartridge, if you have each of the four cartridges in rotation, your printer might see this as five new ones after the fourth swap. The printer memory can fool you into continuing to use your refill cartridge successfully by spinning the cartridges.
Ink Cartridge Related Error Codes
In some cases, some HP printers even show different error codes when cartridges are not recognized or malfunction. You may run into any one of the following error codes:
Error Code 0xc19a0035: Ink System Failure—This error occurs when the printer cannot recognize the cartridge or because of a clogged ink system.
Error Code 0xc19a0013: Cartridge Problem—It shows that the printer is unable to read the cartridge. This could be due to bad chips or bad installs.
Error Code 0xc18a0206: Ink System Failure—This is often seen after replacing the cartridge or when the modem is not recognized. Simply rest your modem, or if the problem continues, you have to replace the OUI chip.
If you encounter any error codes, steps like utilizing an ink cartridge reset tool or changing the chip can solve them.
