Troubleshooting Light and Faded Prints on a Galaxy DTF Printer

Question

I recently ordered a new printhead from BCH Technologies, but I have some questions about my current printhead. I’m sending you pictures to review. The ink seems to flow fine, but the colours are light and faded when my Galaxy DTF printer prints. My colour settings are correct. Could this be a printhead issue, or could it be something else? I’ve replaced the ribbon cables, and all the pins are intact. Also, one screw holding the printhead in the carriage is stripped. Could that be the cause?

Answer

Thank you so much for contacting us at BCH Technologies and sending the photos for review. I’m sorry for the delay in responding to your inquiry. I want to ensure I address your question with the attention and detail it deserves. Printer issues are often time-sensitive, and I appreciate your patience. We’re grateful for your engagement and support, especially with our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Your feedback is essential to helping us refine and share our technical expertise.
After carefully reviewing the seven photos you provided, here’s my assessment:

Nozzle and Print Quality Review

The first six photos show that all the nozzles in your printhead are open, which is a great sign. The last picture demonstrates a perfect DTF print. I don’t see any evidence of dull or faded colours. The slight lightness at the top of the print could be corrected easily by increasing the colour percentage in your RIP software.

Adjusting RIP Software Settings

If you’re using DTFRIP or AcroRIP, consider trying the "DTF Boost" colour profile. This profile outputs more ink and provides better contrast for your prints. However, be aware that the Boost profile will not mask minor flaws in the printhead. Alternatively, you can use the native profiles for Epson 1390 or L1800. These profiles are better at hiding minor imperfections in the printhead, but you must increase the colour percentage to achieve the same intensity. For reference:
  • 60% colour intensity on a native profile = 30% on a Boost profile.
Your white ink coverage looks excellent, crucial for high-quality DTF prints.

Addressing Hardware Concerns

As for the stripped screw on the printhead carriage, I don’t believe this is contributing to the issue you’ve described. Additionally, I strongly advise against removing the printhead solely for this reason, as each removal increases the risk of damaging the printhead.
Based on the photos, I don’t see any problems with your printhead or overall printer setup. However, if you have additional pictures highlighting specific concerns, please send them, and I’ll gladly take another look.

Final Thoughts

Addressing printer issues can be complicated due to the hands-on nature of the problems. While we can’t provide remote troubleshooting or support for printer repairs, we do offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Due to high demand, repairs are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, and they may take a few weeks.
