Troubleshooting Epson 1390 Stylus Photo DTF Power Issues: Mainboard, Control Panel, and Cable Solutions

Question:

Hello, I’m working on an Epson 1390 Stylus Photo (DTF) and have replaced the mainboard, dampers, printhead, printhead cable, and PF sensor board. However, I’m only getting power from the blue rocker switch, while the red power button, blue button, ink out button, and green button have no power at all. I have a replacement FFC cable arriving soon, and I hope that’s the issue. In case the mainboard needs replacing, what is that component called, how does it come off, and where can I find a replacement? Thanks for your help!

Epson 1390 Stylus Photo (DTF) Power Issues [Solution Guide]

You are experiencing power-on issues with the Epson 1390 Stylus Photo printer. From your description, it sounds like the control panel, the mainboard, or even the cables between these elements could be the culprit. Okay, well, what could be the real issue, and what should it be ideally?

The blue rectangle switch is the power to the central system (not the printer itself), and that's why things like your WIMS (White Ink Management System) and fans are running, but when you hit power on the printer, it won't respond. The red power button I used to power on the printer. If the red button does not answer, here are some of what it caused:

Motherboard: The board sends power to the printer's control panel, which powers the red button and the rest of the printer's functions. If the connection is broken, the printer will not start up.

Control Panel or Cables: If your mainboard is working but power isn't making it to the control panel (where the red button is) you could have a bad connection, or a broken FFC (Flat Flexible Cable), which connects the control panel to the mainboard. Good, your new FFC cable is already on the way. If a connection has broken, replacing this cable will fix the problem.

If the new FFC cable doesn't resolve your issue, the logic board is the next thing to look at. Sometimes, the mainboard is called "logic board" or "motherboard." To remove and replace it:

If you want to pull out the Mainboard, remove all the cables clamped on the board, like FFC cable and pined power. Those removed and stored safely; then you should be looking at screws or clips that hold the board in place. After that, carefully remove it; your board should slide right out.

If you investigate these three things — the control panel, mainboard, and cables — you will decide the mainboard is the problem. You can get a new mainboard from eBay or AliExpress or send it to us for repair.

Printer issues can be challenging to troubleshoot simply because of the hands-on work, which often involves a lot of trial and error. We are sorry, but unfortunately, we can't help you with troubleshooting specific printer repairs remotely. We provide in-person evaluation and repair service at our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Still, the wait for this service can take a few weeks since it is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

A printer comprises many different parts, and our respective services are intended to restore the entire printer or individual parts. Instructions for printing a shipping label or choosing local drop-off locations are included with mail-in options. But we know that not every musician can afford our rates, and we have suggested some self-help options here.
