How to Save a Printhead After Sitting for So Long?

Question:
I ordered a new printhead from BCH Technologies (with whom I usually have had good experiences), and it worked well for a bit. I made a point of printing with some regularness so that the ink flowed. Due to an issue with my suction seal on the capping station, I had to wait for a replacement. During this period, I had a printhead cleaning machine run and left the printhead ink-free for three days. I put everything back together again, and my printhead is garbage. Is it salvageable?
Answer:
Thank you for contacting BCH Technologies and for your efforts to provide thorough information about your situation. I want to first apologize for my late response. Printer problems are always a priority, and I get how annoying they can be. I aim to answer every question comprehensively, specifically, and helpfully.
We also welcome your interaction at BCH Technologies, especially on our YouTube Channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). The response I got was constructive in honoring our skill set and deciding what specific content to curate for this community.
With that pointed out, I'd like to address your issue now. Your printhead may have some useful life remaining from the data you provided and the pictures you sent. Here’s a breakdown of what’s going on:
Why a Capping Station is so Important
- As I like to tell people, a bad printhead will only cost you the cost of a printhead, but a capping station failing to do its job will cost you both the capping station and the printhead. The reason is that the capping station maintains the suction and seal required to prevent the printhead from drying out. Without them, the nozzles risk clogging and drying out, which appears to have occurred here.
Analyzing the Nozzle Check
Based on your nozzle check results, I saw two hopeful things:
- Two excellent top-section channels mean they can still print quality output in standard color printing (KCMY - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black).
- If you use this printhead for niche applications like DTF or DTG, some have an acceptable lower portion that makes them viable for white ink printing.
Using As A Rotation For The Colors
- Rotate colors to maximize the life of this printhead. This assigns the functional portions of the printhead to manage the active colors or channels you've used typically. To cover this process, I’ve done it in detail on this YouTube video (https://youtu.be/Ey3wsy9V4zs), and by taking these steps, you should start getting fairly decent printed performance (It’s a rendered print by the remaining working nozzles).
Long-Term Maintenance Tips
- After replacing and reactivating the capping station, make sure it seals well. This will help keep the nozzles clear and run regular cleanings. Also, don’t leave the printhead empty for long periods; doing so can make clearing clogs more difficult.
Problem-solving for printer complications can be more complex than others since it requires hands-on things. That means we can’t offer remote troubleshooting or support to repair printers. However, depending on your location, we can evaluate and repair in person via our diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) at a local level. Still, we recommend you keep in mind that due to high demand, in-person repairs are done on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may be 3 weeks or longer before we can see your printer.
We provide services for the whole of the printer or particular parts with proper guidance on what to do next. That said, we will admit that we are not the cheapest in the market. In the meantime, we recommend you start by researching online for some self-help options. Available Filter Search Filters (I'm -a valid channel link for searching), which can be found near the channel homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) using the icon (the value0 of the search icon gives the possibility of reaching filter videos). YouTube can also recommend videos from other channels that might help.
Once again, thank you for the outreach and your ongoing support. Do let us know if you have more queries!
