Question:
I'm having persistent issues with my Epson L1800 printer and need more ideas to fix it. I've already replaced the printhead, the cable to the printhead, the blown fuses, and the timer encoder strip. I’ve also done multiple alignments and can achieve good CMYK and white purges. However, when printing an image, most prints are blown out or miscoloured, though one is printed decently. Another attempt started printing white but stopped midway. The printhead is brand new and not clogged. What could be causing this? I've watched several of your videos but haven’t found a solution. I’ve attached pictures of my prints to explain the problem.

Potential Causes and Fixes
1. Ink Supply Issues
Your printhead appears in excellent condition, so the problem likely lies in the ink delivery system. Here are some specific areas to examine:-
Ink Flow to the Damper:
Please ensure the damper has enough ink and receives a consistent flow from the tubes. Any disruption in this flow—especially for white ink—can cause the printhead to starve mid-print. -
Clogged Tubes:
The scenario you described, where the printer starts printing white but stops, strongly suggests a potential clog in the ink tubes. This obstruction limits ink delivery to the printhead. Inspect and flush the tubes if necessary to ensure smooth flow. -
White Ink Circulation System:
If your printer has a white ink circulation system, installing a secondary tank can stabilize ink pressure, reducing fluctuations that might cause starvation. For a detailed guide, watch our video on improving white ink circulation (https://youtu.be/FguMBSWbu2o).
2. Capping Station Maintenance
Another common cause of ink starvation is a malfunctioning capping station. This component is vital in priming the printhead and maintaining proper ink flow.-
Clogged Capping Station:
Please check that the capping station is not clogged or blocked. A clogged station can prevent sufficient ink from being pulled into the printhead, leading to inconsistent prints. -
Proper Suction:
When the capping station works correctly, it can help the printhead recover from ink starvation by pulling enough ink back into the system. For maintenance tips, check out our video on capping station cleaning and troubleshooting (https://youtu.be/RVtQLe2wTsk).
