Question:
I’ve been using your products for months, and I’m glad you’re local to Greensboro! My work printer is an HP ENVY 6455e, using 67XL black and 67 colour cartridges. I’m having trouble refilling these cartridges—they leak even when I add a small amount of ink. The ink bleeds through the print head, and the cartridge is nearly empty again when it stops.I’ve read that HP "e" model cartridges are designed to make refilling difficult. I’ve succeeded with your inks in my other HP printer at home, but this one has been challenging. Do you have any insights on fixing this issue? Should I replace this printer with a more refill-friendly model?
If so, can you recommend a good printer for a small office? It should have colour printing, auto-duplex printing, and a multi-page scanning bed, which should be compatible with your refill inks. Thanks for all the great products and support!

Understanding the Leaking Issue: Sponge Fatigue
The leakage you’re experiencing is likely due to sponge fatigue. Over time, the sponge inside HP integrated cartridges (like the 67XL) becomes worn and loses its ability to hold ink effectively. This is a known issue, particularly with HP’s newer cartridges, which appear to have been designed to resist frequent refilling. Here’s how to address sponge fatigue and improve your refilling results:
-
Proper Refill Procedure:
- Follow the refill procedure outlined in this video [https://youtu.be/DvtNz_Y6D-g], which uses the HP 67 cartridge as an example. The steps apply to all HP 6x cartridges, such as HP 61, 62, 63, 64, and more.
-
Replacing the Sponge:
- Suppose sponge fatigue has significantly degraded the cartridge’s performance. In that case, you can replace the sponge using our Sponge Modification Kit [https://bchtechnologies.com/products/modification-kit-for-making-sponge-refillable-hp-integrated-cartridges-60-61-62-63-64-65-66-67-68-69-70-as-spg-hpra]. This kit allows you to refresh your cartridge and make it more refill-friendly.
-
Troubleshooting Errors:
- Errors like E1 or E0 may occur for HP 67 cartridges. This video explains how to resolve those errors: E1 and E0 Errors for HP 67 Cartridges [https://youtu.be/ipueD4xutk4].
