Maintaining Your 8025e Printer: Printhead Cleaning and Cartridge Chip Lifespan

Question: Will You Restock 8025e Print Heads or Should I Buy Used Ones?

At present, your new 8025e print heads are out of stock. Should I buy a used one? My print head won't clean up on the printer, so I need to remove it. I would like to have a clean spare. Also, the black ink does not get through on refilled cartridge (912 type). Do they need flushing? Do chips have a finite life, such as a limited number of pages? Can I use chips on clear plastic cartridges? Thanks, Dr. A.J. Williams. P.S. How do I spend my points?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting us at BCH Technologies. We are grateful for your engagement and support, particularly with our YouTube channel [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]. Your feedback plays a crucial role in further developing our technical expertise.

It doesn't matter if your cartridge is a refilled cartridge, third-party cartridge, or OEM cartridge; the printhead will perform the same. To ensure optimal print quality, use the built-in cleaning function of your printer (found in Settings -> Maintenance -> Print Head Cleaning) if the nozzle check results are less than satisfactory. Below is the recommended cleaning process:

Day One:

  • Perform the cleaning function 3 times or until the nozzle check is perfect.
  • Turn off the printer for at least 10 minutes.
  • Perform the cleaning function 3 times or until the nozzle check is perfect.
  • If the nozzle check is still imperfect, wait 12 hours before continuing.

Day Two:

  • Perform the cleaning function 3 times or until the nozzle check is perfect.
  • Turn off the printer for at least 10 minutes.
  • Perform the cleaning function 3 times or until the nozzle check is perfect.
  • If the nozzle check is still not perfect, please get in touch with us.

It is acceptable to have one or two missing pixels in the nozzle check, but it is recommended to repeat the cleaning process until the nozzle check is perfect. To prevent clogs, printing at least one page per day is recommended. If clogs occur, repeat this cleaning process. When you get down to a couple of missing pixels, the problem may be an air bubble, which will be gone in a day or two, or debris, which cannot be removed by any cleaning method. Therefore, I don't recommend further cleaning. You can use the printer's high-resolution setting, which makes multiple passes and thus covers up the missing pixel.

Regarding the availability of new printheads for this model, we do not sell new printheads anymore. As for the chips on your cartridges, they may have a finite lifespan. Typically, we find that a cartridge won't work after a year or two, but we don't have an exact number of pages it will last.

To address your specific questions:

  • Refilled Cartridge Issues: The black ink not getting through could be due to clogs or air bubbles. Flushing the cartridges might help, but it is crucial to follow the cleaning schedule outlined above.
  • Cartridge Chips: The chips do have a finite lifespan. They may stop working after a certain period or number of uses, but there is no specific page count we can provide.
  • Using Chips on Clear Plastic Cartridges: It is generally possible to transfer chips to clear plastic cartridges, but ensure they are compatible and properly seated.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. For instance, resolving a simple clog might involve advice on unclogging procedures. However, if the printer remained inactive during downtime, a comprehensive service for the ink system could be necessary. Situations like a "paper jam" can arise from hundreds of potential causes, and solving such an issue has become something of an in-office jest. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility [https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service]. Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. So, it might take a few weeks before we can get your printer to drop it off or mail it to us. Our services are structured to repair either a whole printer or specific parts, with clear instructions on how to proceed if you opt for mail-in or local drop-off services. However, we acknowledge that our rates aren't the most economical. Thus, we highly recommend that you resort to self-help via online research. You can start by checking out YouTube or visiting our YouTube channel's homepage [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]. Look for specific videos using the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar. I receive dozens of queries every day asking about videos for specific topics. Having created videos over the past nine years, it's challenging to remember every single one. Therefore, using YouTube's search function would be most efficient. Plus, YouTube might suggest relevant videos from other channels that could assist you.

Thank you again for reaching out to us. We appreciate your interest and support.
