Question: Thanks again for your reply-no worries that it took a few days. I really appreciate everything you do. One last question I forgot to include in my previous email (sorry!): Will this modification kit work with Canon PG-575 and CL-576 cartridges? On your website it says the 275 and 575 are the same, just different regions, and I wanted to double-check that I understood correctly.
Answer:
Yes-this modification kit is intended to work with both PG-575 and CL-576, assuming they are the same integrated printhead-style cartridges in that family (which they are in Canon's regional naming system). In other words, your understanding is correct: Canon often sells the "same cartridge design" under different part numbers depending on the sales region, even though the internal structure is effectively the same.
Why PG-275 and PG-575 are considered "the same family"
Canon uses regional model numbering, so a cartridge body/design can appear as different "PG/CL" numbers across markets. What matters most for compatibility with this kit is not the printed number alone, but the cartridge type and construction:
This kit is compatible when the cartridge is:
-
An integrated cartridge (cartridge + printhead built into one unit)
-
Has a printhead/nozzle plate on the bottom
-
Commonly includes a ribbon/contact area on the cartridge (varies by model, but integrated cartridges typically have a recognizable contact/ribbon arrangement)
A simple rule of thumb (as noted in the kit description):
If your Canon cartridge is an integrated cartridge with a built-in printhead, then this kit is designed to be compatible.
XL vs non-XL compatibility
This kit works with both XL and non-XL versions of the cartridges. XL typically changes the ink capacity and sometimes internal sponge volume, but it does not usually change the "family" design in a way that would stop the modification from working.
Important reminders before purchasing/doing the mod
Because you mentioned wanting to avoid misunderstandings, here are the practical cautions that matter most:
-
This is a Do-It-Yourself modification and rated Difficulty Level: 5 (Very Difficult).
-
The goal of the kit is to convert a pair of cartridges into spongeless refillable cartridges, which can behave differently from the original sponge-based flow system.
-
For best results, it's critical to watch the instruction videos and read everything on the product page before starting, because a small mistake can cause leaking, air ingestion, or poor printing.
Examples of Canon's regional cartridge numbering (for context)
Canon uses different prefixes across regions for essentially the same style of integrated cartridges. Examples include (as shown in the kit description):
-
PG-245 / CL-246 (North America)
-
PG-545 / CL-546 (Europe)
-
PG-645 / CL-646 (Asia/Oceania)
-
PG-745 / CL-746 (Southeast Asia)
-
PG-845 / CL-846 (China)
-
PG-945 / CL-946 (Korea)
So yes-your "same model, different region" interpretation is exactly the reason you'll see families like 275 vs 575 referenced together.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility, Printer Repair Service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so it may take a few weeks before we can get your printer in for drop-off. Our services are structured to repair either a whole printer or specific parts, with clear instructions on how to proceed. However, we recognize our rates aren't the most economical-so we strongly recommend self-help through online research. You can start by checking out YouTube, or visiting our YouTube channel homepage at BCH Technologies on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Look for specific videos using the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar. I receive dozens of questions every day asking about videos for very specific topics, and after creating videos for the past nine years, it's hard to remember every single one. Using YouTube's search function is the fastest approach-and YouTube may also suggest helpful videos from other channels that apply to your situation.
Thanks again for your patience and support. We truly appreciate you, and we're glad the information and videos have been helpful.
