Question:
I came across your video on how to clean and reset the waste ink tank pad counter for the Epson EcoTank ET-2750 (watch it here). Will this same method work for my Epson ET-4760?
Answer:
Compatibility Between ET-2750 and ET-4760 Waste Ink Reset Methods
The method shown in the ET-2750 waste ink pad reset video involves using WIC Reset Utility tools to clear the internal counter that tracks waste ink absorption levels. While this method works for some EcoTank models like the ET-2750, it does not universally apply to all models—especially newer or higher-end models like the Epson ET-4760.
The Epson ET-4760 is equipped with a removable maintenance box, which is not resettable via software. Unlike the ET-2750, the ET-4760 uses a chip-enabled maintenance tank. This chip records the ink absorption levels, and once it reaches its preset limit, the printer will show a service error such as "Service Required", or a "Waste Ink Pad Counter Overflow" warning.
Because of the chip-based design, you cannot reset this counter using the WIC Reset Utility or similar software tools. Instead, the maintenance tank must be physically replaced with a new one that has a fresh chip.
What You Can Do
You can confirm this by visiting the official WIC Reset site at Inkchip.net (https://inkchip.net/wic/). There, you can search for your exact printer model. If your model is not listed, it means it is not supported for software resets and requires a hardware-based solution.
For the ET-4760, you’ll need to purchase a new Epson maintenance box—usually labeled T04D1 or similar—and replace the old one. Epson provides instructions in the manual for this process, and replacement is generally straightforward.
Why This Design?
Epson began introducing chip-enabled maintenance boxes in many of their newer printers to improve reliability tracking and reduce service calls. While this helps ensure proper maintenance cycles, it also means fewer DIY reset options are available for consumers.
Note on In-Person Repairs and Support
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. So, it might take a few weeks before we can get your printer to drop it off. Our services are structured to repair either a whole printer or specific parts, with clear instructions on how to proceed. However, we acknowledge that our rates aren't the most economical. Thus, we highly recommend that you resort to self-help via online research. You can start by checking out YouTube or visiting our YouTube channel's homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Look for specific videos using the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar. I receive dozens of queries every day asking about videos for specific topics. Having created videos over the past nine years, it's challenging to remember every single one. Therefore, using YouTube's search function would be most efficient. Plus, YouTube might suggest relevant videos from other channels that could assist you.
Thanks again for reaching out. We appreciate your patience and support, and we’re always here to help empower you with technical knowledge.
