What the External Waste Tank Does
An external waste tank collects ink discharged during operations such as:

Without an external tank, this discharged ink normally travels into internal absorbent pads. Over time, the printer estimates how much ink has entered those pads by increasing an internal waste-ink counter.
The external bottle redirects the discharged ink into a visible, removable container. This makes it easier to monitor the waste ink and reduces the amount continuing into the printer's internal absorbent material.
However, the tank is only a physical collection system. It does not communicate electronically with the printer and cannot reset any internal counters.
The Waste Tank Does Not Reset the Printer

Before purchasing a reset key, confirm that the utility detects your exact printer model and can read the ET-4550 waste counter. A direct USB connection is usually more reliable than attempting a reset through Wi-Fi or a network. You should also temporarily close other Epson utilities that could interfere with communication between the printer and the reset program.
Physical Maintenance and Electronic Reset Are Separate
