What Comes with the XP-15000 Printhead Protector V2 Kit? Understanding the Updated Two-Piece Guard Set

Question:
The listing for the Printhead Protector Cover Guard V2 for XP-15000 Series (https://bch-youtube-fan-store.myshopify.com/products/printhead-protector-cover-guard-v2-for-waterproof-xp-15000-series-xp-8500-xp-8600-version-3) says it includes two head covers. Does that also include the printer face cover?

Answer:

In an earlier version of the product, we offered a two-piece set: one larger guard designed to cover the printhead assembly and one smaller FFC (Flat Flexible Cable) guard. However, during further testing, we discovered that the larger guard could interfere with the printer’s alignment. This posed a risk of shifting or damaging the printhead calibration, which is critical to maintaining high print quality and mechanical precision.

Because of this, we discontinued the larger printhead face cover. In its place, we’ve developed a better solution that allows for waterproofing without risking alignment. We now recommend applying silicone sealant to the area that the larger guard was originally meant to protect. This method provides a durable, watertight seal while maintaining full compatibility with your printer’s internal tolerances. We’ve released a tutorial showing exactly how to apply the sealant for optimal protection—be sure to check it out on our YouTube channel.

In the updated version of the V2 guard kit, we include two of the smaller FFC guards. The reason? This smaller piece plays a critical role in protecting the printhead’s electrical connection area from ink leakage. Since this part can be removed and reapplied for maintenance (such as FFC cable replacement), we include a spare guard for your convenience.

So to clarify:

  • You will receive two FFC guards (small covers)

  • The larger printhead face cover is no longer included

  • For sealing the larger area, use silicone sealant, as shown in our updated instructions

Printer modifications often involve delicate, physical adjustments that we’re unfortunately unable to walk through remotely. That’s why we don’t offer personalized support for printer repairs or upgrades outside of our facility. However, we do provide in-person repair and evaluation services at our diagnostic center (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Due to high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and wait times may vary. Our services can cover full printer repairs or component-specific issues, depending on your needs.

That said, we understand our pricing may not fit every budget, which is why we encourage self-guided solutions whenever possible. Our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) is a great starting point. Use the search icon next to the “About” tab to find detailed videos on your specific printer model or component. With nine years of video content, searching by keyword is the fastest way to get relevant help—even YouTube may recommend content from other helpful channels.
