Troubleshooting Your DTF Pro Fusion Model J Printer: Common Startup and Printing Issues

Question:
I just set up my DTF Pro Fusion Model J for the first time. I downloaded the software, but the printer doesn’t respond to my laptop. The laptop says “complete,” but nothing happens on the printer. Also, the printer sprays some paint on the left side of the paper in a space away from the paper. What should I do?

Answer:

1. Checking the Printer Communication

The first problem you describe—your printer not responding to your laptop—is often linked to driver or communication issues. Even if the software says “complete,” the printer may not be properly recognized.

  • Make sure the correct printer driver for your model is installed. If the driver is generic or mismatched, the printer won’t respond.

  • Confirm that the USB cable or connection is secure. Try a different USB port on your laptop if needed.

  • Some DTF printers require the Epson Adjustment Program (a diagnostic tool originally designed for Epson technicians) to check and reset communication with the printer.

2. Using the Epson Adjustment Program

Here’s how you can use this tool:

  1. Open the Adjustment Program and select the USB port with your printer’s name from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click on Particular Adjustment and scroll down to select Printer Information Check.

  3. Press Check, and the program will display the most recent error codes at the top.

The error codes are crucial for diagnosing what’s happening. For example:

  • APG Sensor Error – This could indicate a problem with the auto paper gap sensor.

  • Communication Error – Suggests a driver or USB connection issue.

You can search “BCH Epson Error” on Google to find our detailed explanation of Epson’s Triple Secret Error Codes, which can help interpret what you see.

3. Paper Spray and Ink Splatter Issue

The second issue—ink spraying on the left side away from the paper—usually points to one of these:

  • Printhead Alignment Issues: If the head isn’t aligned, it may spray ink outside the print area.

  • Capping Station or Wiper Malfunction: If the head isn’t being cleaned or capped properly, excess ink can splatter.

  • Paper Feed Calibration: If the paper isn’t correctly detected, the printer may discharge ink in the wrong area.

Running a printhead alignment and checking that the platen is clean and properly seated can help. Also, ensure the ink lines and dampers are not leaking.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. We’re not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We do offer an in-person evaluation and repair service through our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Since demand is high, repairs are handled on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take a few weeks before we can service your printer. Our services are available for both full printers and individual parts, with instructions on how to proceed. However, we understand that our repair costs may not be the most affordable. That’s why we encourage self-help using online resources. A good starting point is our BCH Technologies YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Use the search function on the channel to quickly locate videos that may address your issue. With over nine years of content, it’s impossible to remember every video, but the search bar is a powerful tool. YouTube may also suggest relevant videos from other creators that can help.

Thank you again for contacting us. Your patience and support mean a lot to us, and we hope this guidance helps you move forward with resolving your printer’s issues.
