Question:
Is it possible to replace the sponge in a Canon PG-275 ink cartridge? If not, what do you recommend as a workaround or solution?
Answer:
To address your question directly: Canon PG-275 cartridges, much like the PG-245 and PG-210 series, use a sponge-based ink reservoir. However, Canon does not sell replacement sponges, and we do not carry the exact sponge component for the PG-275 due to its proprietary design and variable quality when attempting to repurpose generic sponge materials. Attempting to replace the sponge manually is not only challenging but may also lead to inconsistent ink flow or clogging.
Instead, we strongly recommend converting the cartridge into a spongeless ink reservoir system, which allows for more consistent refilling and longer usage without the degradation issues commonly seen with sponge saturation over time. For this solution, we offer a Modification Kit for Making Spongeless Cartridges, compatible with various Canon cartridges, including models with similar designs to the PG-275 such as PG-210, CL-211, PG-240, CL-241, PG-245, CL-246, PG-243, and CL-244. You can find the product and full instructions on our site here:

Although the PG-275 is not explicitly listed on that page, the internal structure is highly similar to the PG-245. We've had customers successfully adapt this kit for their PG-275 with minimal modification. The kit includes a reservoir conversion system and guides to help you through the process. The end result is a more durable and refill-friendly cartridge that bypasses the limitations of the original sponge design.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. So, it might take a few weeks before we can get your printer to drop it off. Our services are structured to repair either a whole printer or specific parts, with clear instructions on how to proceed. However, we acknowledge that our rates aren't the most economical. Thus, we highly recommend that you resort to self-help via online research. You can start by checking out YouTube or visiting our YouTube channel's homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Look for specific videos using the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar. I receive dozens of queries every day asking about videos for specific topics. Having created videos over the past nine years, it's challenging to remember every single one. Therefore, using YouTube's search function would be most efficient. Plus, YouTube might suggest relevant videos from other channels that could assist you.
Thanks again for reaching out to us. We hope this solution helps extend the life of your Canon PG-275 cartridge and improves your printing experience. Don’t hesitate to contact us again with any follow-up questions!
