How to Reflash or Restore Epson Printer Firmware When Wi-Fi Stops Working or the Printer Is Stuck in Recovery Mode

I watched your video, "This Simple Trick FIXES Your Broken Epson Printer!" and wanted to know whether there is a way to reflash the printer with the original Epson firmware and completely reset it so that it no longer restarts in recovery or firmware-update mode.
In my case, the printer's Wi-Fi is also behaving strangely. It can see other wireless networks, but it cannot find my own network even though the network itself is working correctly and all of my other devices-including older devices-can connect to it without any problems. Is there a way to restore the printer to its original or initial firmware and get it operating normally again?

Can the Original Epson Firmware Be Reflashed?
Potentially, yes, but the exact procedure depends heavily on the Epson printer model and on what portion of the printer's memory has been damaged.
There are generally two different situations:

The printer still communicates with a computer through USB.
-
The printer is so badly corrupted that it can no longer communicate normally.
If the printer still communicates through USB, I would always investigate software recovery before considering board-level repair.
Why Firmware Updates Can Leave an Epson Printer Stuck
An Epson printer contains several types of nonvolatile memory that preserve firmware, settings, configuration information, and other data even when the printer is powered off.
During a firmware update, substantial amounts of information may be erased and rewritten. If something interrupts that process-for example, a power interruption, USB communication failure, an incorrect firmware package, or a problem with the printer's flash/EEPROM memory-the printer may be left with incomplete or inconsistent data.
Memory devices can also deteriorate after repeated erase/write cycles. If a memory region has become unreliable, a firmware update may expose the problem because the update requires the printer to rewrite areas that previously weren't causing noticeable symptoms.
Depending on the failure, you may see symptoms such as:

The printer continuously entering firmware recovery or update mode.

Flashing or blinking lights.

The printer freezing during startup.

The control panel not completing initialization.

USB communication working only in recovery mode.

The printer not being detected normally by the operating system.

Try Epson's Firmware Recovery Method First
If the printer can still communicate with your computer over USB, that is encouraging.
The first thing I would try is placing the printer into its appropriate firmware recovery or update mode and using the correct Epson firmware recovery package for that exact printer model.
The objective is to have Epson's updater rewrite the necessary firmware areas rather than relying on the damaged installation already stored in the printer.
There is an important distinction here: reinstalling firmware and performing a factory reset are not necessarily the same thing.
A factory reset generally restores user-configurable settings such as networking or preferences. It does not necessarily rewrite corrupted firmware or restore every piece of nonvolatile memory to the state it was in when the printer originally left the factory.
Likewise, successfully reinstalling firmware does not guarantee that all saved configuration information will be reset.
Can WICReset Downgrade the Firmware?
For some supported Epson printers and firmware combinations, third-party utilities such as WICReset may provide firmware-related recovery or downgrade procedures. Whether that is possible depends on the exact printer model, current firmware, and firmware package available for that machine.
If your printer supports such a procedure, it may be worth investigating before opening the printer or programming memory chips directly.
However, don't repeatedly flash random firmware versions simply because the printer accepts USB communication. Installing firmware that does not belong to the exact printer model or hardware revision can make the situation substantially worse.
Also, if the underlying memory device itself is becoming unreliable, repeatedly rewriting it may produce inconsistent results. A printer might recover temporarily and then fail again.
Why Firmware Downgrades Are Sometimes Attempted
Some Epson owners investigate firmware downgrades after cartridge-recognition behavior changes following an update, particularly when third-party or refillable cartridges are involved.
However, firmware changes are not the only possible cause of cartridge, Wi-Fi, or initialization problems. Therefore, I would not assume immediately that returning to the oldest firmware will automatically solve the problem.
The important question is whether you are dealing with:

corrupted configuration data,

failing memory hardware,

a networking configuration problem, or
-
an unrelated Wi-Fi compatibility issue.
Those require different repairs.
Your Wi-Fi Problem May Be Separate From the Firmware Problem
The fact that your printer can detect other Wi-Fi networks but cannot see your particular network is an important clue.
It suggests that the printer's Wi-Fi hardware may still be functioning. Before assuming that the Wi-Fi firmware itself is corrupt, I would investigate the router configuration.
Many older Epson printers support only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, not 5 GHz or 6 GHz. A modern router may combine several bands under one network name or automatically move devices between bands.
Check whether your router offers a dedicated 2.4 GHz network and temporarily give that network a separate SSID. Then see whether the Epson can detect it.
I would also investigate:

2.4 GHz availability: Make sure the router has 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi enabled.

SSID broadcasting: Make sure the network name is not hidden.

Wireless security: Some older printers can have trouble with newer WPA3-only configurations. A WPA2-compatible configuration may be necessary for older hardware.

If the printer can see multiple neighboring networks but consistently cannot see yours, I would test these router-related factors before opening the printer or replacing memory components.
What If the Printer Keeps Restarting in Firmware Recovery Mode?
If the printer repeatedly starts in recovery mode, first determine whether your computer recognizes it over USB.
If it does, the safest progression is generally:
USB communication → proper Epson recovery firmware → verify normal boot → reset/reconfigure printer settings → test Wi-Fi.
If normal firmware installation succeeds but the printer immediately returns to recovery mode after restarting, that raises greater concern about either corrupted persistent memory or a hardware problem on the main board.
At that point, repeatedly running firmware updates may not solve the underlying problem.
What If the Printer No Longer Communicates With the Computer?
If the printer's main board no longer communicates sufficiently for a software recovery process, the repair becomes significantly more technical.
This is where EEPROM or flash-memory programming may become necessary.

The basic board-level concept is to obtain a known-good binary image from a compatible printer/main board and program that data directly into the appropriate memory device.
However, this should not be interpreted as simply copying any Epson firmware file directly onto any EEPROM.
The memory architecture varies among Epson models. A board can contain multiple memory devices, and some data may be unique to that specific printer or board. You need to identify the correct chip and understand what its contents represent before overwriting anything.
Always Back Up the Original Chip First
If you reach the hardware-programming stage, I strongly recommend making multiple reads of the original memory before writing anything to it.
Save the original binary file even if you believe it is corrupt.
Ideally, read the chip more than once and compare the files. If repeated reads give different data, that itself may indicate a connection problem, incorrect programmer settings, or a failing memory device.
Never erase the original chip before obtaining a backup if a readable backup is still possible.
A Donor Firmware Dump Must Match the Printer
A clean binary dump normally needs to come from a compatible printer or board. The closer the match, the better.
At minimum, you need to consider the:

Exact printer model.

Main-board revision.
-
Memory chip type.
-
Hardware region where applicable.
-
Firmware generation.
-
Configuration data stored in that memory.
A dump from a printer that simply "looks similar" is not necessarily safe.
Some calibration values, identification information, counters, regional configuration, or other machine-specific information may also reside in nonvolatile memory. Therefore, blindly cloning an entire memory image can sometimes create a different problem even if the printer starts afterward.
Sometimes Replacing the EEPROM or Flash Chip Is Better
There is another important consideration: why did the data become corrupted in the first place?
If corruption occurred only because power was lost halfway through an update, rewriting the original memory may solve the problem.
But if the chip itself contains unreliable memory cells, successfully programming it once does not mean that it will remain reliable.
That is why, when I suspect actual physical memory deterioration, I may prefer replacing the EEPROM or flash-memory device rather than repeatedly programming the original component.
A new compatible chip can be programmed with the appropriate data and installed on the board. This involves microsoldering and should only be attempted if you are comfortable identifying IC packages, using a programmer, handling circuit boards safely, and soldering surface-mount components.
Don't Assume Firmware Is Responsible for Everything
In your particular situation, I would separate the problem into two diagnoses.
First, determine whether the printer itself is genuinely stuck in firmware recovery mode and whether normal firmware can be restored through USB.
Second, troubleshoot the missing Wi-Fi network independently.
If the printer returns to completely normal operation but still sees every wireless network except yours, I would strongly investigate the router's 2.4 GHz band, wireless security mode, channel configuration, and compatibility settings before attempting EEPROM replacement.
On the other hand, if several unrelated printer settings and hardware functions became abnormal immediately after the failed firmware operation, corrupted nonvolatile memory becomes a stronger possibility.
