How to Prevent Transparency Issues When Feeding DTF Film in the Epson L805 Printer

Question:

I have recently made changes in the Epson L805 printer and instead of using the Top load dampers, I am using the usual dampers with a splitter in the return pipe, placed outside the printer. Next, I'm running into a problem feeding DTF film. The film is transparent, so I must stick a little piece of paper on the edge for the printer to absorb it. How can this be done without additional paper? A module or something?

Answer:

The Transparency Issue  Explained

Printers such as the Epson L805, meanwhile, utilize optical sensors to sense paper, which are based on reflection of light and thus can tell whether the med. These sensorsresent or not.the DTF film does not have can thusbacking, so the sensor may not detect it properly, which can result in feed problems.

Potential Solutions

Adjusting the Optical Sensor

Certain users opt to tweak the optical sensor to increase its sensitivity to nearly nude celluloid. You can achieve this with a piece of small semi-opaque material that covers part of the sensor which allows enough portion to go through it for identifying the user. But it is a sensitive change that should be approached carefully.

Confirming use of a Leading Edge or Carrier Sheet

For this reason never place a small paper on the edge all over you can use the white backing sheet or carrier sheet when feeding the film. A few DTF users put a reusable white sheet behind the film so the printer can detect where it is, but it doesn't harm the printing process.

How to Use a Printable DTF Film with Opaque Edge

Some DTF films have an opaque strip on the leading edge. These are intended for use with poor printing glossy media. A DTF film with this capability, if available, can save you from manual adjustments.

Feeding the Paper Feed Mechanism

Some advanced users have even hacked their paper feed rollers for improving grip on DTF movie. This may include adding a friction-enhancing material to the rollers to help guide the film correctly. Making adjustments only with caution, lest you break the rollers or cause misfeeds.

Instruction for Printer Driver Paper Settings Adjustment

Select a different media type in the printer settings. Using a glossy or premium setting for photo paper is sometimes more sensitive for the printer to transparent films.

Final Thoughts

Printer problems can be a bit tricky to troubleshoot, because they tend to be very hands on. So we cannot offer remote troubleshooting, recommendations, or printer repair support. We can perform in-place device diagnostics and repairs through our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). As we have a high volume of repairs awaiting diagnostic evaluation, we operate a first-come, first-served basis, which may mean you will have to wait a few weeks before you are able to drop a device off. We provide complete printer repair services and/or replacement of relevant part with right direction. We do recognise, however, that our rates may not be the cheapest. So we highly encourage you to window shop via online research for self-help solutions.
