Question:
I recently purchased BCH's Premium 6-Color Sublimation Ink for my converted Epson EcoTank L8050 printer. I was told that I need to use an ICC color profile for color management. Can you provide the ICC profile for this ink?
Answer:
At BCH, we do not provide customized ICC profiles for our sublimation inks. Instead, our inks are designed to work well with generic Epson ICC color profiles. These profiles are built into most Epson printer drivers and offer an excellent baseline for accurate and vibrant color output.
Here's why:
ICC profiles are created by measuring how a specific ink set interacts with a specific printer model and paper type under controlled conditions. Since every user's setup-such as heat press temperature, pressure, sublimation paper, and fabric type-differs, a single custom ICC profile wouldn't guarantee universal accuracy. Instead, using Epson's generic photo or presentation paper profiles provides balanced results that can be fine-tuned with printer driver adjustments.
Recommended Color Management Setup for the Epson L8050:
-
Select the Right Media Setting:
When printing from your design software, choose a paper type similar to what you're using for sublimation. For example, "Premium Presentation Paper Matte" or "Photo Paper Glossy" are good starting points for most sublimation papers. -
Disable Printer Color Management (Optional):
If you prefer to let your design software (like Photoshop or CorelDRAW) manage color, disable color management in your printer driver. In Photoshop, set "Photoshop Manages Colors," then choose a generic Epson ICC profile that matches your selected media type. -
Adjust Brightness and Saturation Manually:
Because sublimation colors appear dull before pressing, make slight adjustments to brightness and contrast within your software. After heat pressing, evaluate the color output and make fine adjustments as needed. -
Use Consistent Heat Press Settings:
Color results depend heavily on press conditions. Make sure your temperature, pressure, and dwell time are consistent-this prevents unwanted color shifts or faded tones. -
Optional: Create a Custom ICC Profile Yourself:
If your business requires perfect color matching (e.g., for branded apparel or product photography), you can have a third-party ICC profile made using a color calibration device such as the X-Rite i1 Studio or Datacolor SpyderPRINT. This ensures your profile matches your exact ink, paper, and printer combination.
At BCH, our sublimation inks are formulated to deliver vivid, high-saturation prints even with standard Epson profiles. The L8050's six-color system (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta) provides excellent color gradients for photo-quality transfers, making it ideal for customized products like mugs, shirts, and tumblers.
Addressing printer and color management issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the setup. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting or one-on-one calibration services. However, we do offer in-person evaluation and repair services through our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take a few weeks before we can schedule a drop-off. Our services include full printer repairs and component-level diagnostics, with clear instructions on how to proceed.
