Question:
I got a 031006 error code (also known as 0x9A) on my Epson printer. When I cracked it open to inspect the mainboard, the F1 fuse appeared to have blown. I tried, and it is a problem you face. Is there a spare fuse that I can use to fix this myself?
Answer:
⚠️ What Is Epson Error Code 031006 (Or 0x9A)?
Error 031006 (occasionally displayed as 0x9A) is a fatal hardware error typically associated with the printhead circuitry or mainboard. In many instances, it is triggered by the F1 fuse blowing on the mainboard. That fuse guards the board at any time a short or surge occurs, which is commonly caused by a blown printhead, incorrect cabling, or statics.
If you’ve determined that F1 is toast, that generally means you’ve found your problem. Replacing the F1 occasionally got the board back to life — as long as the underlying issue (like a shorted head) had been fixed, too.

Tips for Detoxifying the Fuse Flawlessly
Check the short: Ensure that the short that blew the fuse is corrected before replacing it. Common culprits include:
- A shorted printhead
- Damaged FFC cable
- Improper head installation
Test with a multimeter: Check continuity across the fuse after the replacement.
Take care to test: Once you replace the fuse, initially power the printer without the printhead connected to confirm that the board isn’t further damaged.
