How to Fix an Epson Error "Cartridge Not Recognized" When CSIC Board Has Got Wet

Question: In the video "Fix Epson 'Cartridge Not Recognized' - Change Chip Board Pins (9-pin) CSIC for 1390, 1430," the customer asks: If after cleaning the printhead, the CSIC got wet and now it's not recognized, can I change the CSIC board?

Answer: As for your question, yes, you can replace the CSIC  board if it has been damaged by water. The CSIC board detects that the cartridges are inserted and communicates that with the printer. If, after changing the board, the printer still won't print, it's more likely to be a fault with the printhead itself than the CSIC board. There usually is too much cleaning or even other issues, which can be due to the malfunction of the printhead. The printhead is also non-functional and still gives the issue of “Cartridge Not Recognized” despite the CSIC board remaining intact.

You also need to check that the printhead is connected, the FFC cables are connected, and the printhead has power. If any nozzles are blocked, there is a lack of delamination, or damage occurs due to cleaning the printhead, that could be the reason. If you've swapped out the CSIC board and the problem is not resolved, I'd recommend carefully checking the printhead and perhaps trying a suitable printhead (you have one, right?).

All printer problems, particularly those involving the printhead and CSIC board, are not easy for every user to deal with; however, the process can also be tedious when they do come up.
