How to Fix a Stuck Wiper on Your Epson L1800/1390 Capping Station – Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

Question: The wiper for my Epson L1800/1390 capping station will not come up. How can I fix it?

Answer:

If the capping station wiper won’t come up, it’s usually not visible, so you have to look carefully at the right side of the capping station, where you can see a small hole with a gear that uses a flathead screwdriver to turn it.

Slowly rotating that gear should move the wiper up and down. If the wiper still isn’t coming up, check it for any buildup of dried ink that might have “glued” it in place — gently clean the area with an appropriate cleaning solution like isopropyl alcohol. If the cleaning does not help and the wiper stays unresponsive, disassembling the capping station and checking and possibly repairing all gears and related components might be needed, as little gears can be out of place or parts are worn out, preventing correct usage. Sometimes, you may even get error codes for the capping station assembly; however, this is usually a mechanical issue.
