Epson XP600 Printhead Waterproofing for UV DTF Printers and Using Ink Base With Expired Sublimation Ink

I have a eufyMake E1 UV printer that I purchased during its Kickstarter campaign last year, but I have not set it up yet and have never installed the ink. I understand that the printer may use an Epson XP600 printhead.
Is it possible or necessary to waterproof an XP600 printhead when it is being used in a desktop UV DTF printer? If waterproofing is needed, can it be done using the same supplies or methods used for Epson printers that have been converted for regular DTF printing?
I also have BCH Universal Ink Base solutions for dye and pigment inks. Can either of these base solutions be added to expired BCH Standard or Premium Sublimation Ink to extend the usable life of the ink?

Does an Epson XP600 Printhead Need to Be Waterproofed for UV DTF Printing?
If your eufyMake E1 is using an XP600-style printhead, I would not recommend attempting to waterproof or modify the printhead before setting up the printer.
Many XP600 printheads supplied specifically for Chinese-manufactured UV, DTF, DTG, and other specialty printing systems already have some degree of protective sealing or waterproofing applied around sensitive areas. Manufacturers and printhead suppliers know that these printers operate in environments where ink leakage, cleaning solution, condensation, or accidental fluid contact can damage the electrical components of the printhead.
However, there is an important distinction between an XP600 printhead being sold as a replacement component and the complete printhead assembly installed by a printer manufacturer.
Even if the underlying printhead technology is referred to as an "XP600," the printer manufacturer may have its own:

Cable arrangement

Damper or ink manifold design
-
Printhead mounting system
-
Electrical protection
-
Sealing around the circuit board
-
Ink delivery system
-
UV ink formulation
-
Cleaning and maintenance procedures
For that reason, I would not assume that the waterproofing procedures or materials commonly used when converting an Epson desktop printer to DTF are appropriate for the eufyMake E1.
Why Waterproofing Is Discussed With DTF and UV Printheads
When people talk about "waterproofing" a printhead, they normally are not waterproofing the nozzle plate or the ink channels themselves. Those areas obviously have to interact directly with liquid ink.
Instead, the objective is usually to protect vulnerable electrical areas of the printhead, particularly the flexible circuit connections and portions of the electronics that can be damaged if conductive liquid reaches them.
This can be especially important with modified printers because the printer was originally designed around one ink system and is being converted to another. Specialty inks, aggressive cleaning procedures, manually installed dampers, tubing modifications, and frequent maintenance can increase the possibility of liquid reaching areas that were not intended to get wet.
A purpose-built UV printer is different. Its manufacturer should already have designed the printhead assembly around the UV ink system.
Because your printer has never had ink installed and apparently has not yet been commissioned, this is actually the best time to leave the original printhead assembly untouched and follow the manufacturer's setup procedure.
I recommend contacting eufyMake directly and asking them whether the printhead installed in your particular E1 requires any additional sealing or waterproofing before the initial ink installation. I would specifically ask them whether modifying the printhead or applying an aftermarket coating could affect the printer's warranty.
I would not apply silicone, conformal coating, epoxy, adhesive, or one of our DTF-related waterproofing materials to the E1 printhead unless eufyMake specifically confirms that the modification is appropriate.
An unnecessary sealing modification can sometimes create additional problems. For example, material applied in the wrong location could interfere with connectors, trap moisture, make future printhead replacement more difficult, or contaminate areas near the nozzle surface. It may also complicate a future warranty claim.
Therefore, in your situation, I would consider the original E1 printhead ready for use unless eufyMake tells you otherwise.
Can BCH DTF Printhead Waterproofing Supplies Be Used on the E1?
Technically, some of the same types of sealing materials used around specialty printheads could potentially be used on many different printhead assemblies. However, that does not mean I would recommend doing so on this particular printer.
Our DTF waterproofing procedures are generally intended for situations where a printer is being modified or where a technician has identified a specific area requiring additional protection.
Your eufyMake E1 is a factory-built UV printer rather than an Epson desktop printer that you are personally converting to DTF. Because of that difference, the safest approach is to follow the E1 manufacturer's design rather than applying a conversion technique from a different printer platform.
In short: I would not waterproof the E1's XP600 printhead unless eufyMake specifically instructs you to do it.
Can Universal Dye or Pigment Ink Base Be Used to Extend Expired Sublimation Ink?
I would not recommend using either our Universal Dye Ink Base or Universal Pigment Ink Base to extend the usable life of expired sublimation ink.
An ink base is not an ink rejuvenator or expiration-life extender.
When ink becomes old, several things can potentially change inside the formulation. Depending on the type of ink and storage conditions, these changes can include:

Changes in viscosity
-
Changes in surface tension
-
Evaporation of certain components
-
Dye degradation
-
Separation or settling
-
Contamination
-
Changes in the balance of humectants and other additives
-
Formation of very small particles, deposits, or contaminants that may eventually affect the printhead
Adding more base solution does not reverse these aging processes.
For example, if an ink has become more concentrated because some liquid has evaporated, it may seem logical to add an ink base to replace what was lost. The problem is that you usually do not know which component evaporated, how much was lost, or whether other parts of the ink chemistry have changed at the same time.
Adding an arbitrary quantity of base could therefore change the ink's viscosity, surface tension, dye concentration, drying characteristics, color density, and jetting performance.
What About Using Dye Ink Base With Sublimation Ink?
Sublimation ink is generally a dye-based ink system, so it may seem reasonable to use a universal dye ink base with it.
However, "dye-based" does not mean that every dye ink has the same chemistry.
Sublimation ink must keep the sublimation colorants stable in suspension or solution and must also have precisely controlled physical properties so that microscopic droplets can reliably pass through a piezoelectric printhead.
A universal dye ink base may be useful for certain ink formulation, dilution, experimentation, or maintenance applications when the user understands the chemistry involved. It should not be considered a universal method for restoring expired sublimation ink.
I would be especially cautious if the ink is going into a printhead that is expensive or difficult to replace.
What About Pigment Ink Base?
I would not use Universal Pigment Ink Base to rejuvenate expired sublimation ink.
Pigment inks and sublimation dye inks have fundamentally different formulation requirements. Even if the liquid appears compatible when mixed in a container, that does not demonstrate that the mixture will remain chemically stable or jet reliably through a printhead.
The risk simply is not worth it.
What Should You Do With Expired BCH Standard or Premium Sublimation Ink?
If BCH Standard or Premium Sublimation Ink has passed its recommended shelf life, the safest option is to replace it rather than attempt to restore it by adding ink base.
Whether an expired bottle actually becomes unusable immediately depends on many factors, including how it was stored, whether it was opened, temperature exposure, contamination, and how far beyond its recommended shelf life it is. However, once it is outside the recommended storage period, its original performance specifications can no longer be assumed.
This becomes especially important because the cost of replacing ink is usually much lower than the potential cost of dealing with clogged dampers, contaminated ink lines, unstable colors, nozzle loss, or printhead damage.
If you are experimenting for a non-critical purpose, you can visually inspect older ink for obvious separation, sediment, clumping, contamination, or other abnormalities. However, a bottle looking normal does not guarantee that its viscosity, surface tension, chemical stability, or jetting characteristics are still within specification.
For production printing or for filling a printer that you want to depend on, I would use fresh sublimation ink.
So my recommendations would be straightforward:

Do not modify or waterproof the eufyMake E1 printhead before installation unless eufyMake specifically instructs you to do so.

Do not assume that waterproofing procedures developed for converted Epson DTF printers should be applied to a factory-built UV printer.

Do not use Universal Dye Ink Base or Universal Pigment Ink Base as a method of extending the life of expired BCH sublimation ink.

Use fresh sublimation ink when reliability, print quality, and printhead protection are important.
