Epson XP-15000 DTF Printing Issue: Paper Loaded in Wrong Direction

Question

I recently invested in a DTF printing business, putting my entire life savings into it. My Epson XP-15000 printer, which is less than two months old, suddenly stopped printing. The printer shows an error message: "Paper is loaded in the wrong direction. Paper remains inside because it is placed sideways. Load A4 size paper in the Paper Cassette to remove the paper inside."

When I attempt to print, the print head moves halfway across the page, and the film gets about halfway through the printer before being ejected without any print. The paper is loaded the same way it always has, and nozzle checks still print correctly from the bottom tray with smaller paper. However, I’m unable to print on the film. I am located in Guyana, South America, so shipping the printer for repair is quite tricky. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

The problem you’re describing with your Epson XP-15000 is likely related to the page width sensor. DTF printing films that are not entirely opaque can cause issues because the printer tries to measure the page width and may struggle with transparent or semi-transparent films. Most double-sided matte films typically give the printer an accurate reading, but some movie can still cause this issue.

Potential Fix

To troubleshoot this, try placing a piece of opaque tape on the back of the film, ideally something like blue painter’s tape used in the US for masking during painting. You can use any non-transparent tape. Placing this tape on the back can help the sensor detect the correct page width, allowing the printer to print correctly.
