Epson XP-15000 CISS Paper Jam After DTF Conversion: How to Fix a Jerking Printhead and Carriage

I installed a CISS system on my Epson XP-15000 after following the 6 STEP XP-15000 DTF Conversion: Relocate CSIC, Waterproof Printhead, Remove Star Wheel [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAN3dXe8IT4] video. After installing the CISS, the printhead started jerking during startup, and the printer now reports a paper jam.
I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in, but it no longer completes its normal startup check. The printhead jerks again, and the paper-jam message comes back even though I do not see an obvious paper jam. What could be causing this, and what should I check?

Based on your description, I would first suspect that the paper-jam message may be a secondary symptom rather than an actual sheet of paper being stuck in the printer. The most important clue is that the problem started immediately after installing the CISS and that the printhead/carriage now jerks before the printer finishes its normal startup routine.
You did not mention a numeric or alphanumeric Epson error code, so there is no specific numbered error code to interpret here. The reported error is the paper-jam condition/message. Epson's documentation instructs users who receive a paper-jam message to inspect the rear feed, interior paper path, cassette, and rear cover for trapped paper or foreign material. (Epson Support) However, because your carriage is jerking immediately after a CISS installation, I would investigate the carriage mechanism and CISS installation very carefully before assuming this is a normal paper-feed jam.
1. Check the CISS Tubing First
The CISS tubing is one of the first things I would examine.
When the XP-15000 turns on, the carriage must be able to travel smoothly across its entire operating range. If the CISS tubing is too short, routed incorrectly, twisted, pinched, or attached in the wrong location, it can pull against the carriage as the head moves.
Turn the printer off and unplug it before inspecting anything. Look at the tubing and ask yourself:

Does the tubing have enough slack for the carriage to reach both the far-left and far-right positions?

Does the tubing become tight when the carriage moves toward one side?

Can the tubing catch on the printer frame, cover, CSIC components, cables, rollers, or other converted parts?

Is the tubing folded or making a sharp bend?

Is a tubing clip positioned where the carriage can hit it?

Does the tubing pull upward or backward on the cartridge/damper assembly?

Can part of the tubing fall into the carriage path as the head moves?
A CISS tube can look perfectly fine while the carriage is parked but become extremely tight when the carriage moves to the opposite side.
This is why unplugging and reconnecting the printer would not correct the problem if the cause is mechanical. Each time the printer starts, it encounters the same obstruction or resistance again.
2. Temporarily Isolate the CISS Installation
Since the printer apparently operated differently before the CISS was installed, try to isolate the modification.
If your particular conversion allows you to do so safely, temporarily arrange the CISS tubing so that it cannot interfere with carriage travel. If you can return the carriage area as close as practical to its configuration before the CISS was installed, that can be an excellent diagnostic test.
The objective is not necessarily to print. You simply want to determine whether the printer can complete its startup movement normally when the CISS tubing is no longer exerting force on the carriage.
If the printer suddenly initializes normally after the CISS tubing is moved out of the way, you have found a very strong indication that the problem is with tube routing, tube length, tube tension, or the mounting position.
3. Do Not Keep Power-Cycling a Printer With a Violently Jerking Carriage
If the carriage is hitting something or making an unusually violent jerking motion, I would avoid repeatedly turning the printer on just to see whether the error disappears.
If there is a mechanical obstruction, repeated startup attempts can put unnecessary stress on the carriage drive system, timing belt, motor, printhead assembly, or nearby components.
Instead, turn the printer off, disconnect power, and inspect the carriage path first.
4. Inspect the Carriage's Entire Travel Path
With the printer powered off and unplugged, inspect the area where the printhead travels.
If the carriage can be moved manually without forcing it, check whether you feel a particular point where it catches, becomes unusually difficult to move, or hits something. Never force the carriage. Depending on where the printer stopped in its shutdown or error sequence, the carriage or parking mechanism may still be engaged.
Pay particular attention to anything that was added, moved, or modified during the CISS/DTF conversion.

5. Check the Encoder Strip and Carriage Encoder Sensor
Another important possibility is the encoder strip.
The encoder strip is the thin, transparent strip running horizontally through the carriage area. The printer uses this strip and the carriage's encoder sensor to determine the printhead's position.
If the strip has been:

Pulled out of position,
-
Twisted,
-
Disconnected from one end,
-
Contaminated with ink or grease,
-
Positioned outside the carriage's encoder sensor,
-
Or disturbed while installing the CISS,
the printer may no longer correctly determine the carriage position.
One symptom can be erratic, jerky, or abnormally fast carriage movement.
Carefully inspect the encoder strip without pulling on it. It should run straight through the carriage sensor rather than sitting in front of or behind the sensor slot.
If you see ink or contamination on it, be extremely cautious. The markings on the encoder strip are critical to carriage positioning. Do not scrub it aggressively, stretch it, or use a strong solvent.
6. Check Whether the CISS Cartridges or Dampers Are Properly Seated
Also inspect whatever cartridge, damper, or adapter assembly your CISS uses at the carriage.
If one cartridge or adapter is sitting higher than the others, the assembly can contact the inside of the printer during movement. A CISS hose pulling upward on an adapter can also partially unseat it.
Check that everything is:

Secure,

Not protruding above its intended position,

And not being pulled sideways by the tubing.
Sometimes the CISS itself is not directly blocking the carriage; instead, the tubing tension lifts an adapter just enough to create an obstruction.
7. Pay Special Attention to the Right-Side Parking and Capping Station
The right side of the XP-15000 is particularly important because this is where the printhead normally parks.
If the carriage moves toward the right side and then starts jerking, clicking, or repeatedly trying to move, inspect the parking/capping area carefully.
The printhead must be able to enter and leave this area smoothly. Look for:

CISS tubing pulling the carriage away from the station,
-
Something dropped into the mechanism,
-
A piece of tape or plastic,
-
A displaced component,
-
Dried ink or debris creating severe resistance,
-
Or something interfering with the carriage as it attempts to leave its parked position.
If you recently worked in this area during the conversion, an obstruction that seems very small can still prevent the startup sequence from completing.
8. Check for a Real Paper Jam or Foreign Object Too
Even though I suspect the CISS/carriage area first, don't completely rule out an actual paper-path obstruction.
Remove the paper and inspect the rear feed, cassette area, inside of the printer, and rear access area. Look for small torn pieces of paper rather than only full sheets. Epson specifically recommends checking these areas when the XP-15000 continues reporting a paper jam. (Epson Support)
Because this printer has also been modified for DTF use, look for foreign objects such as:

Loose screws,
-
Pieces of plastic,
-
Removed star-wheel components,
-
Small pieces of adhesive,
-
Cable ties,
-
Tubing clips,
-
Or tools or hardware accidentally left inside.
A very small object in the wrong location can stop a sensor or mechanical assembly from completing its expected movement.
9. Recheck Anything You Disconnected During the Conversion
If the CISS installation required you to work around the printhead, CSIC board, or wiring, carefully recheck the electrical connections too.
A cable that is slightly crooked or incompletely seated can create problems that are difficult to distinguish from mechanical failures.
Pay particular attention to anything you disconnected immediately before the problem appeared. If the printer worked before a particular modification and failed immediately afterward, troubleshooting should normally begin with the last area that was changed.
Do not repeatedly disconnect and reconnect delicate flat-flex cables unless necessary. Their contacts and connectors can be damaged surprisingly easily.
10. Determine Exactly Where the Jerking Happens
The location of the jerking can provide an important clue.
If the carriage jerks immediately while trying to leave the right-side parking station, investigate the CISS tension, parking/capping station, and anything obstructing the head at the right side.
If it moves normally through part of its travel but jerks near the middle or left side, tubing length or a tubing clip becomes particularly suspicious.
If the carriage moves rapidly or unpredictably across the printer without appearing to know where it is, inspect the encoder strip and encoder sensor very carefully.
If the carriage appears normal but the printer reports a jam only when it starts trying to feed media, then the paper-feed mechanism or paper sensors become more likely.
That distinction can save a lot of troubleshooting time.
11. The Timing Strongly Points Back to the Modification
The most useful diagnostic fact in your description is still this:
The problem appeared immediately after the CISS was installed.
Whenever a printer develops a new mechanical symptom immediately after a modification, I normally start by assuming that something associated with that modification is interfering with normal operation until proven otherwise.
Therefore, my inspection order would be:
CISS tubing and tubing tension → carriage obstruction → cartridge/damper seating → encoder strip → right-side parking/capping station → CSIC/cable routing → actual paper path and sensors.
I would not start replacing motors, gears, or electronic boards until these installation-related possibilities have been eliminated.
