Question:
I recently replaced the printhead on my Epson WF-7210. When I try to print, the printer runs normally but the page comes out completely blank. What could be the cause of this issue?
Answer:
When an Epson WF-7210 prints blank pages after a printhead replacement, there are a few possible causes and troubleshooting steps to consider:
-
Air in the Ink System (Most Common)
-
New or replaced printheads often have empty channels. If the ink has not fully primed into the nozzles, the printer will attempt to print but release no ink.
-
Run a printhead priming process: use the printer's built-in cleaning cycle once or twice to encourage ink to flow. Avoid repeated back-to-back cleanings, as this can overheat the printhead and waste ink. Allow the printer to rest between cycles.
-
If still blank, a manual prime using a syringe and cleaning kit on the ink ports may be necessary to draw ink through.
-
-
Incorrect or Loose FFC Cable Connection
-
The Flat Flexible Cable (FFC) that connects the printhead to the mainboard must be seated properly. Even a small misalignment can prevent electrical firing of the nozzles, leading to blank output.
-
Recheck the cable alignment, ensure no bent pins, and make sure the locking tabs are firmly secured.
-
-
Faulty or Non-Recognized Printhead
-
Unfortunately, not all replacement printheads are functional. If the head was stored improperly, exposed to static electricity, or shipped without protective sealing, the micro nozzles or electrical pads can fail.
-
In such cases, the printer will go through normal motions but no ink will be ejected.
-
-
Clogged Nozzles Even on a New Printhead
-
Sometimes, even new printheads can be partially dried out if left unused for long periods. If so, the nozzles must be cleared using a professional printhead cleaning solution and priming syringe.
-
Never use plain water or alcohol, as this can damage the nozzle coating.
-
-
Firmware/Chip Recognition Issue
-
The WF-7210 communicates with the printhead through chips and firmware. If the printer does not recognize the head properly, it may behave as though it is printing but release no ink. Ensure your printer firmware is compatible and that the replacement printhead is designed specifically for the WF-7210 series.
-
If your printer still prints blank pages after these steps, it usually indicates either a faulty printhead or a deeper issue in the mainboard circuitry.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. So, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We do offer an in-person evaluation and repair service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) at our diagnostic facility. Because of high demand, service is first-come, first-served, and there may be a waiting period of a few weeks. Our services cover both complete printers and specific parts, with clear instructions provided. However, since our rates may not be the most economical, we also recommend exploring self-help resources. A good starting point is our **YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies)**-use the search icon next to "About" to locate videos by keyword (e.g., "WF-7210 blank pages" or "Epson printhead priming"). YouTube may also recommend additional helpful guides from other experts.
Thank you once again for contacting us and for supporting BCH Technologies. We hope this helps you get your Epson WF-7210 printing properly again.
