Epson WF-3640 Error 0x9A After Reassembly: Check Cables Before Replacing Parts

Question:

My Epson WF-3640 still shows error 0x9A after I took it apart, found no visibly burned cables, and reassembled it. What could be wrong?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting BCH Technologies. We apologize for the delayed reply. We know printer problems are urgent, and we want to give you a careful, detailed answer. Thank you for supporting BCH and our YouTube channel.

On the Epson WF-3640, error 0x9A can involve the printhead circuit, flat-flex cables and connectors, or the mainboard. The code does not prove that any one component has failed. A cable can have an open trace or damaged contact without a visible burn mark, so your visual check alone cannot rule it out.

Turn the printer off and unplug it before inspecting the connections again. Check that every ribbon is fully seated in the correct orientation and that the contacts and connector latches are clean and undamaged. Look for bent pins, ink, or corrosion. Do not connect or disconnect a ribbon while the printer has power. If you see evidence of a short, avoid repeated power cycles because further damage is possible.

Note whether 0x9A appears immediately at startup or only after the carriage begins moving. That timing can help a technician narrow the diagnosis. If the ribbons and connectors appear sound but the error persists, have the printhead circuit and board tested before buying a printhead, cable, or mainboard. Replacing parts by guesswork can be costly and may leave the original fault in place.
