Epson WF-2540 Won’t Power On — Is It the Power Supply?

Question:
I have an Epson WF-2540 printer that suddenly went dead. I opened the lid to check if there were any fuses, but couldn’t find any. Does this model have a power supply unit, and if so, can it be repaired?

Answer:

Regarding your Epson WF-2540 that won’t power on:

1. Quick Power Reset (Soft Recovery Attempt)

Before diving into hardware diagnostics, try this:

  1. Unplug the printer from the wall outlet.

  2. Press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds to discharge residual power.

  3. Plug the printer back in while still holding the power button for another 10 seconds.

  4. Release the button and try powering it on normally.

Some users have reported success after 2–3 tries, as this can sometimes reset the printer’s internal power logic.

2. Possible Power Supply Unit (PSU) Failure

The Epson WF-2540 does have a power supply board located in the lower section of the printer, typically accessible by removing the rear cover and side panels. If the soft reset fails, the PSU may be faulty.

  • Common PSU issues: burnt capacitors, blown fuses on the board (not visible as standalone fuses), or damaged rectifier diodes.

  • Testing: You can use a multimeter to check if the PSU outputs the expected voltages (usually between 24V and 32V DC for the main feed). If there’s no voltage at the output connector, the PSU likely needs repair or replacement.

3. Mainboard Issues (MOSFET or Power Controller)

If the PSU is working and you still have no power, the problem may be on the printer’s mainboard:

  • Power MOSFETs and voltage regulators distribute and stabilize current to different parts of the printer.

  • A shorted MOSFET or failed regulator IC can block startup entirely.

  • Mainboard work often requires soldering and component testing, so if you’re not comfortable with electronics repair, it’s best to take it to a professional.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we’re not able to provide remote troubleshooting or step-by-step repair support. We do offer in-person evaluation and repair services (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) at our local diagnostic facility. Because of high demand, we work on a first-come, first-served basis, so it may take a few weeks before your printer can be examined. We can repair entire printers or specific parts, but our rates may not be the lowest—so we also encourage self-help options, like searching on YouTube. To find videos on our channel, click the search icon next to “About” on the right-hand side of our menu bar. This is faster than asking directly, since we’ve produced hundreds of videos over the past nine years, and YouTube’s search will also recommend helpful videos from other creators.
