Epson ET-4850 WiFi Card Replacement (Vertical vs. Horizontal): Correct Part ID, Compatibility, and Return Options

Question: My Epson ET-4850 has a bad WiFi card. I ordered a replacement, but my original WiFi card is vertical and the one I ordered is horizontal (4-Pin Horizontal Epson WiFi J26H006 GP 11n+BT Combo Wireless LAN MINI USB Module). I also ordered a connector cable, but it doesn't connect to my motherboard.

1) Can I return these items?

2) Do you have access to a vertical WiFi replacement card?

Answer

1) Returns: Yes, we can accept a return (with conditions)

Yes-we can accept returns within 30 days, as long as the items are unused and still in good condition. One important note: if any ink has been opened/exposed, or if any part has come into contact with ink, we won't be able to accept the return.

2) Why your "horizontal" WiFi card and cable won't fit (and how to find the correct "vertical" one)

What you're seeing is very common: Epson uses WiFi modules that can look similar, but differ in connector orientation and sometimes even pin style, which makes them physically incompatible even if they're from the same general family.

Here are the key compatibility checkpoints:

A. Connector orientation matters (Vertical vs. Horizontal)

Even if the WiFi module is the "right type" electrically, a horizontal connector module will not mate with a vertical motherboard connector (and vice versa). That mismatch is exactly why the cable you ordered "of course" won't connect-your ET-4850 is built for the vertical layout.

B. Pin count matters (4-pin vs. 5-pin)

You'll want to confirm whether your original module is 4-pin or 5-pin. Ordering the wrong pin count guarantees it won't connect correctly.

C. The WiFi board model number must match exactly (examples: J26H006 vs. J26H005)

The most reliable way to get the correct replacement is to match the exact model number printed on your original WiFi board-character-for-character.

For example:

  • J26H006 is not compatible with J26H005
They may look nearly identical, but they are different parts.

Other markings you might see on the board (PCB revision codes, date stamps, factory codes) are usually not the deciding factor. The main module model number is the critical piece.

3) How to identify the correct vertical replacement WiFi card (fast, accurate method)

To make sure you get the right part, use this process:

  1. Remove and inspect the original WiFi board

    • Use your phone camera and zoom in-the text is tiny.

    • Write down the full model number (example format: J26H0xx).

  2. Confirm the connector type

    • Pin count: 4-pin or 5-pin

    • Orientation: vertical or horizontal

  3. Search based on BOTH the model + the orientation
Once you have the exact model number and the connector orientation, you can search our site: BCH Technologies website (https://bchtechnologies.com).
    Use search terms like:

    • "J26H0xx vertical"

    • "ET-4850 WiFi board vertical"

    • "4-pin vertical WiFi module" (or 5-pin if applicable)

4) Do we have access to the "vertical" version?

In many cases, yes-but the exact answer depends on the model number printed on your original vertical board. Epson has multiple variants, and we do not want you to go through another round of ordering the wrong orientation or a close-but-not-compatible module. If you match the board number and orientation, you'll avoid repeat downtime and extra return shipping.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair because so many problems are hands-on and depend on what we physically see on the unit. Because of that, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, step-by-step repair coaching, or hands-on support for printer repairs. We do offer an in-person evaluation and repair service through our local diagnostic facility: Printer Repair Service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Due to high demand, we run first-come, first-served, and it may take a few weeks before you're able to drop the printer off. Our services are structured to repair either the whole printer or specific parts with clear procedures, but we also understand our rates may not be the most economical for everyone. For that reason, we strongly recommend self-help through online research when possible-starting with YouTube or our channel homepage: BCH Technologies on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). You can search our videos efficiently by using the search icon next to "About" on the right side of the menu bar. We receive dozens of questions daily asking for specific videos, and after nine years of uploads it's tough to remember every topic-so YouTube search is the fastest route. It can also recommend helpful videos from other channels that may apply to your exact situation.
