Epson ET-15000 Not Printing Black or Yellow Sublimation Ink: Troubleshooting Missing Colors and Printhead Ink-Flow Problems

I have an Epson EcoTank ET-15000 that is only about seven months old and has been converted to use sublimation ink. It was printing normally on Thursday, but starting Friday it stopped printing both black and yellow. I have already performed several cleaning cycles and allowed the printer to sit, but black and yellow are still missing. What could cause two colors to suddenly stop printing, what can I try to fix it, and what would a repair cost?

From your description, the important detail is that both black and yellow disappeared suddenly after the printer had been working normally the previous day. Because two channels are affected at the same time, this does not automatically mean that the printhead itself has failed.
Also, you did not report an Epson error code, so this appears to be an ink-delivery or nozzle problem rather than an electronic error being identified by the printer's firmware.
Start With a Nozzle Check
Before doing any additional cleaning, print a nozzle check and examine the pattern carefully.
If black and yellow are completely blank while cyan and magenta remain relatively normal, the problem is more likely related to ink delivery to those channels.
If portions of black and yellow are present but contain many missing lines, the problem may be partially clogged nozzles, air inside the ink path, or insufficient suction from the capping station.
If all colors begin deteriorating, then the problem may involve the maintenance station, capping station, pump, waste line, or printhead seal rather than two individual ink channels.
Keep copies or photographs of your nozzle checks. They are useful because they show whether your troubleshooting is actually improving the printer or simply changing the pattern.
Avoid Repeated Back-to-Back Cleaning Cycles
One of the first things I would recommend is stopping repeated automatic cleaning cycles.
Running cleaning after cleaning may seem logical, but it can sometimes make the situation worse. Each cleaning cycle pulls ink through the printhead. Excessive cleaning can consume a substantial amount of ink, fill the maintenance system, introduce or move air through the ink path, and leave the printhead saturated without actually removing the obstruction.
If several normal cleanings have already been performed, give the printer time to rest before doing more.
I would also avoid using the printer's strongest cleaning procedure repeatedly. If you perform a stronger cleaning or power-cleaning operation, allow approximately 12 hours before performing another aggressive cleaning procedure.
A Park-and-Prime Procedure May Help
For this type of problem, one procedure we use is what I call a park and prime.
The goal is to use the printer's own capping station to apply controlled suction underneath the printhead. This can help determine whether the printhead is properly sealed against the cap and whether ink can move through the affected nozzles.
Turn the printer on and allow the printhead to return naturally to its normal parked position over the capping station. You want the printhead to be properly seated against the rubber cap.
Locate the waste-ink line associated with the capping/pump system and attach an appropriately sized tube and syringe.
The important word here is gently. Do not aggressively pull the syringe. Excessive vacuum can damage a damper, deform internal membranes, or create additional ink-delivery problems.
Begin pulling the syringe slowly.
Initially, you might move approximately 4-6 ml on the syringe scale before establishing a proper vacuum. You should eventually begin feeling some resistance.
What you feel tells you quite a lot about the condition of the printer.
If the Syringe Pulls Only Air
If you can continuously pull air with almost no resistance, you probably do not have a proper vacuum underneath the printhead.
Possible causes include:

The printhead is not correctly positioned on the capping station.

The rubber cap is dirty or deformed.
-
Dried ink or debris is preventing the cap from sealing against the printhead.

A waste tube or pump connection is leaking.
-
The capping station itself is damaged.
-
The pump is allowing air to enter the system.
In this situation, continuing to pull the syringe usually will not prime the printhead because the suction is escaping through the leak.
Inspect the capping station for dried sublimation ink, lint, paper fibers, or other contamination that could prevent a good seal.
If You Cannot Pull the Syringe at All
The opposite condition is also informative.
If the syringe develops extremely strong resistance immediately and you cannot draw anything through the waste system, there may be a blockage in the capping station, pump, or waste tubing.
A clogged cap or pump cannot properly pull ink through the printhead during the printer's normal cleaning process. That could explain why repeated software cleaning has not restored your missing colors.
The maintenance system has to be functioning before automatic printhead cleaning can work correctly.
If You Develop Controlled Resistance
If the printhead is properly parked and the capping station is sealing correctly, slowly pull the syringe until you feel controlled resistance.
With some printhead and damper systems, you may hear or feel a slight movement or crinkling from the internal damper membrane as vacuum develops. Do not interpret this as a reason to pull harder. It simply tells you that suction is being transmitted through the ink system.
You can slowly draw the syringe toward approximately the 10 ml mark, while watching for ink entering the tubing.
For example, if you started around the 6 ml syringe position and eventually reach 10 ml while holding the syringe upright, you have created approximately 4 ml of actual movement.
Once ink begins flowing, maintain gentle suction for approximately 10 seconds, then release it carefully.
You are trying to establish ink flow-not force large quantities of ink through the printhead.
Why Black and Yellow Might Stop Printing
There are several possible causes worth considering on an ET-15000 using third-party sublimation ink.
One possibility is air in the ink-delivery system. If the printer was moved, the tanks became low, ink was recently added, or the printer drew air for another reason, an air pocket can interrupt delivery to one or more channels.
Another possibility is sublimation ink settling or partially clogging the system. Sublimation ink behaves differently from the Epson dye/pigment inks for which the ET-15000 was originally engineered. Ink formulation, particle behavior, storage conditions, temperature, and how frequently the printer is used can all affect reliability.
A third possibility is a damper or ink-path restriction. If ink is present in the tank but is not reaching the printhead properly, cleaning the nozzles will not solve the underlying supply problem.
There could also be a capping-station or pump problem. This is particularly important when multiple colors suddenly become difficult to recover. If the cap cannot seal to the printhead, the printer's automatic cleaning cycle cannot generate enough vacuum to pull ink through the nozzles.
Finally, there can be an actual printhead obstruction or printhead failure, although I would not assume that immediately simply because two colors are missing.
Check the Ink Supply Before Blaming the Printhead
Make sure both the black and yellow tanks contain enough ink.
Also inspect the ink path as much as the ET-15000's design allows. Look for unusually large air gaps or obvious interruptions in ink flow.
If you recently changed ink brands or added a different sublimation ink to what was already inside the printer, chemical compatibility is another consideration. Two inks can both be sold as "sublimation ink" without necessarily having identical formulations.
Mixing different formulations can sometimes cause precipitation, thickening, or changes in flow characteristics.
Clean the Capping Station Carefully
The rubber capping station underneath the printhead deserves particular attention.
If dried ink accumulates around the perimeter of the cap, it may look relatively normal but still fail to form an airtight seal.
A good seal is essential. The printer's pump creates suction beneath the printhead during cleaning. If air leaks around the edge of the cap, the pump pulls air instead of pulling ink through the nozzles.
You can clean contamination around the cap carefully, but avoid damaging or distorting the rubber sealing surface.
Also inspect the wiper blade. A dirty wiper can smear ink and contamination back across the nozzle plate every time the printer performs a maintenance operation.
Do Not Force Cleaning Solution Into the Printhead
One mistake I would strongly avoid is forcing cleaning fluid backward or forward through the printhead under high syringe pressure.
These printheads contain very small internal passages and delicate components. More pressure is not necessarily more effective.
A gentle, controlled vacuum from the waste side is very different from aggressively forcing liquid through the printhead.
If you encounter very high resistance, stop and determine why the restriction exists rather than increasing syringe pressure.
After Priming, Run One Normal Cleaning
If you successfully establish ink flow through the park-and-prime procedure, allow the printer to settle and then perform one normal Epson cleaning cycle.
Afterward, print another nozzle check.
Compare it with your original nozzle check.
If black or yellow begins returning-even if the pattern is incomplete-that is useful information. It suggests that the printhead can still produce those colors and that you are probably dealing with ink flow, air, or clogging rather than a completely dead channel.
Do not immediately perform five more cleanings because you see partial improvement. Give the ink system some time to stabilize.
If Black and Yellow Remain Completely Blank
If both colors remain completely absent after confirming:

There is ink in the tanks,
-
Ink can reach the printhead,
-
The capping station seals correctly,
-
The pump and waste system can develop suction, and
-
A controlled priming procedure produces no improvement,
then deeper inspection would be required.
At that point, possible areas include the dampers or ink-delivery assembly, severe internal printhead blockage, maintenance-station failure, or an electrical issue affecting the printhead.
Electrical printhead problems should not be approached by repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting cables with power applied. The printer should be properly powered down before working around printhead electronics.
About the Printer Being Only Seven Months Old
Seven months is relatively young for the printer itself, but using an ET-15000 with third-party sublimation ink changes the troubleshooting picture considerably.
A young printer can still develop ink-flow problems, especially after conversion. The age of the printer alone therefore does not rule out a clogged nozzle, air pocket, capping-station problem, or damper issue.
You should also be aware that modifications and the use of non-Epson ink can affect what is covered under the manufacturer's warranty, so warranty eligibility would need to be discussed directly with Epson.
How Much Would It Cost to Repair?
We cannot accurately quote this particular repair without examining the printer.
The final cost depends on what has actually failed. Cleaning or repairing a maintenance/capping system is very different from replacing or servicing a printhead, and replacing an individual component is different from performing a complete printer repair.
For that reason, I would not want to give you an arbitrary price based only on the symptom of missing black and yellow.
