I repaired the Wi-Fi card in my Epson EcoTank after receiving Error 202260: "Wi-Fi is out of order." However, after putting the printer back together, it now feeds three blank pages and then displays a "Paper Out" message. What might I have connected or assembled incorrectly?

Why the Printer May Feed Several Blank Pages

When the printer pulls in paper, it expects each sheet to activate specific sensors at particular times. These sensors tell the mainboard that paper has been picked up, entered the paper path, reached the printing area, and exited correctly.

If a sheet moves through the printer without activating the expected sensor, the printer may attempt to load another sheet. This can produce two or three blank pages before the machine eventually reports "Paper Out." The printer may physically have paper in the tray, but its control system cannot confirm that the paper reached the correct position.

  • A paper sensor cable is disconnected or only partially seated.

Recheck Every Cable and Connector

Do not force a cable into place. If a connector has a locking tab, make sure the tab is open before inserting the cable and fully secured afterward. Inspect the cable ends for folded contacts, scratches, tears, or creases.

Inspect the Paper Sensor Flags

Epson printers use small mechanical sensor levers, sometimes called sensor flags, throughout the paper path. A sheet pushes a flag as it passes, and the movement allows an optical sensor to detect the paper.

During uncasing or reassembly, one of these levers can become:

  • Trapped beneath a plastic cover

  • Installed on the wrong side of a guide

  • Bent or pushed out of alignment

  • Blocked by a wire or flat-flex cable

  • Disconnected from its return spring

  • Unable to return to its resting position

With the printer turned off and unplugged, inspect the visible paper path and gently test whether each accessible sensor lever moves freely and returns by itself. Do not apply excessive force because these plastic parts can break easily.

If a sensor flag remains permanently open or closed, the printer may incorrectly conclude that no paper was loaded, that paper is already inside the machine, or that the sheet failed to reach the expected location.

Check the Paper Tray and Pickup Assembly

Make sure the paper tray is fully inserted and that the paper guides are not pressing too tightly against the stack. Confirm that the paper is flat, properly aligned, and not overloaded.

Also inspect the pickup rollers and nearby gears. Since the printer can feed three sheets, the pickup system is moving, but it may not be operating at the correct time or releasing each sheet properly.

Look for:

  • A pickup roller that was installed incorrectly

  • A pickup arm that does not return to its resting position

  • A spring that became detached

  • A gear that is not fully engaged

  • A tray component that is not seated correctly

  • A cable or wire obstructing the pickup mechanism

  • A cover pressing against a moving lever

If the printer was placed on its side or turned upside down during the Wi-Fi repair, a loose spring, lever, or guide may have shifted.

Check for Incorrect Cable Routing

Cable routing is just as important as cable connection. A cable may be electrically connected but still cause problems if it was placed on the wrong side of a frame, cover, or paper guide.

Compare the current cable arrangement with the layout shown in the original disassembly footage. Check whether each cable follows its original channel and lies flat beneath the appropriate clips.

A misplaced cable can:

  • Block a paper sensor

  • Rub against a moving gear

  • Prevent a cover from sitting correctly

  • Interfere with the carriage

  • Enter the paper path

  • Become pinched when the case is tightened

If the problem began immediately after reassembly, a routing or connection error should be considered before replacing any parts.

Determine Whether the Pages Are Being Printed or Only Transported

It is helpful to determine whether the printer is attempting to print on the three sheets or simply transporting them through the machine.

If the pages pass through without normal printing sounds or carriage movement, the printer may be repeatedly attempting to establish the correct paper position. That would strongly suggest a paper-detection or sensor-timing problem.

If the carriage moves as though it is printing but the pages remain completely blank, there may also be a separate ink-delivery, printhead, or printhead-cable issue. In that situation, inspect any printhead-related flat-flex cables that may have been disturbed.

Avoid Repeated Test Printing

Do not continue sending multiple print jobs while the cause remains unknown. Repeated testing can pull additional sheets into an incorrect paper path, create a jam, damage a sensor lever, or allow a loose cable to contact a moving component.

After inspecting the printer, begin with a single-sheet test. Confirm that the sheet loads normally, pauses in the correct printing position, and exits without another sheet being picked up unnecessarily.

If the printer still feeds multiple blank pages, stop the test and inspect the sensor connections again.

Understanding the Two Errors

The two problems should be diagnosed separately:

  • Error 202260 - "Wi-Fi is out of order": This relates to the wireless module, Wi-Fi board, its connection, or communication with the printer's main electronics.

  • "Paper Out": In this situation, the message likely indicates that the printer cannot correctly detect or track the paper, even though paper is physically present and being fed.
