Changing HP Integrated Cartridges with a Spongeless Kit

Question: I have been looking for the Kit Modification for Creating a Spongeless Cartridge with HP Integrated Cartridges, and I saw Kevin show the modification on YouTube. In the videos, he swaps out the black and color cartridges for one with a "clear" top to see the ink filling them while pouring it into them. Is the original, in fact, not clear anymore, and is the replacement top that comes in the kit, in fact, clear?

Answer: Yes, the kit comes with a clear replacement top. This makes refilling and ink levels inside the cartridge easily visible. The clear top is a massive upgrade from the original design, as it allows for visibility into the internal ink levels, an aspect the original design does not have. Compatible with HP integrated cartridges (HP 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 74, 75, and 901) that create a spongeless system on your standard suction. This approach replaces the sponge with an ink chamber, which helps better regulate the flow of the ink and allows the printer to be efficiently refilled with ink faster. However, as the product page notes, this is a Difficulty Level: 5 (Very Difficult) modification, requiring precision and patience. In case you're going to try this modification, some essential things to remember are:

Make Sure There Is a Proper Seal — When replacing the top, be sure it is well sealed to avoid  leaks. Belleville guarantees ink containment and prevents leakage if you have any rupture or improper adhesion.

Monitor Ink Levels Closely—The clear top is meant to be visual, so use it. Only refill the cartridge when the ink level is low; otherwise, pouring too much can cause ink spillage and damage the printhead.

Handle with care – The components are delicate, so work on a stable surface with proper lighting to prevent accidental damage.

Compatible Ink Matters—Check the quality of the ink you are using with the HP integrated cartridges. Low-quality ink can cause clogs and other print quality problems.

Additional Support: Such printer modifications and troubleshooting require a hands-on process, complicating things. It's too bad that we cannot provide remote troubleshooting or repair. We offer a local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) for printer evaluation and physical repair if you are in local BC. We offer a drop-off service, but it's often a few weeks' wait as we work on a first-come, first-served basis due to demand. To explore do-it-yourself solutions, we strongly suggest using the search function of YouTube (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) by hunting the keywords for the problem in the search box of the home page of our channel. This should allow you to locate relevant videos quickly. Since we have produced many videos, this is the best way to find specific tutorials.
