The Canon PG-245 black cartridge is designed for pigment black ink. Use ink formulated for the PG-245 and keep it out of the CL-246 color cartridge. The supplied Support reply confirms the cartridge compatibility, but it does not guarantee that every third-party pigment ink will work well in the cartridge.

Pigment ink can produce durable black text, which may be useful for barcodes and QR codes. Scan reliability also depends on the label material, print settings, barcode size and contrast, and the scanner. Test a sample with the actual labels and scanner before relying on it in production.

Do not allow pigment ink to dry in the cartridge or printhead. If print quality changes, check the cartridge installation and print a nozzle or test pattern if supported by your printer.
