Question:
I would like to make my Epson WF-2950 chipless so I can refill the ink indefinitely while keeping the printer displaying 100% ink levels. I saw that BCH previously offered a modified chipless Expression Home WF-2850 with an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Will this product be available again?
Answer:
Thank you for reaching out to us! First, I sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. I completely understand that printer-related issues and modifications are time-sensitive. However, I want to ensure I give your question the attention it deserves. At BCH Technologies, we greatly appreciate your engagement, particularly through our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies), as your feedback helps us continue improving our technical expertise.
Regarding your request, we do not sell chipless software or firmware modifications. In the past, we offered a chipless modified WF-2850, but we currently do not have plans to bring it back to the market.
If you’re looking for chipless firmware for the WF-2950, you may want to check InkChip.net (https://www.inkchip.net/), which specializes in such solutions. However, as of my last check, the WF-2950 is not listed as a supported model on their platform. It’s possible that they may release a firmware solution in the future, so you might want to keep an eye on their updates.
Alternative Solutions
If chipless firmware is not yet available for your printer model, here are some alternative approaches you can consider:
- Using Auto-Reset Chips or ARC Cartridges – Some third-party refillable cartridges come with auto-reset chips that can reset the ink level when removed and reinstalled. This won't make your printer completely chipless, but it can help extend the use of refilled ink.
- Chip Resetter Devices – Some chip resetters may work on the WF-2950 series cartridges. However, their effectiveness varies depending on Epson’s firmware updates.
- Downgrade Firmware (if possible) – Some older Epson models allow firmware downgrades, which can bypass certain restrictions on third-party ink. However, this is usually tricky with newer models like the WF-2950.
If chipless software does become available for the WF-2950 in the future, it's important to ensure you’re getting it from a reliable source to avoid printer malfunctions or security risks.
Need Hands-On Help?
Printer modifications and troubleshooting can be complex, and due to the hands-on nature of these issues, we are unable to provide remote support for printer modifications or repairs. However, we do offer an in-person printer repair service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) at our local diagnostic facility. Due to high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take a few weeks before we can assess your printer. Our service covers both full printer repairs and specific part repairs, with clear instructions on how to proceed. That being said, we understand our rates may not be the most budget-friendly, so we encourage users to explore self-help options through online research.
