Can BCH Red Cleaning Solution Be Used for DTF Ink? How to Dilute and Store It Properly

Question:
Can the red cleaning solution from BCH Technologies be used on DTF inks? If I purchase the 1000 ml version, does it need to be diluted? Also, is there an expiration date for this cleaner?

Answer:

  1. Compatibility with DTF Inks:
Yes, the red cleaning solution can work with DTF inks. While it was originally formulated for pigment, dye, and sublimation inks, it's also effective at breaking down DTF residues in printheads and ink lines. However, because DTF inks are thicker and contain adhesive components, the red cleaner may not dissolve hardened DTF particles as quickly as cleaners specifically designed for DTF. It's best used for routine maintenance or mild clogs, not for deeply hardened DTF buildup. For more severe clogs, a DTF-specific cleaner-often labeled as an "ink dissolver" or "DTF flush"-would be more aggressive and effective.

  2. Dilution Instructions:
BCH sells two types of 1000 ml red cleaning solution:

    • Ready-to-use formula - already diluted and safe to apply directly.

    • Concentrated formula - requires dilution before use.

To identify which one you have, check the product title and description on your order or packaging. If it's labeled "concentrated," you'll need to dilute it with distilled water before use. The standard dilution ratio is 1 part concentrate to 3 parts distilled water for most applications. This provides an effective balance between cleaning power and safety for printheads.

Always remember to use distilled water only when diluting-tap water contains minerals that can cause nozzle blockage or corrosion over time.

  3. Expiration Period:
The red cleaning solution has a shelf life of approximately 1.5 years under proper storage conditions. Keep it tightly sealed in a cool, dark place to prevent evaporation or contamination. Avoid leaving the bottle open or exposing it to high temperatures, as this can reduce its cleaning effectiveness.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we're unable to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We do offer an in-person evaluation and repair service through our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Because of high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take a few weeks before your printer can be dropped off. Our services cover full printer repairs as well as individual component repairs, with step-by-step guidance provided for each case. That said, our pricing might not be the most economical, so we encourage users to start with self-help methods through online research. You can find a wealth of how-to videos on our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Use the search icon beside the "About" tab to locate tutorials on your printer model or cleaning topic-YouTube's recommendation system might also suggest helpful videos from other experts.
