AcroRIP Crashes When Importing PNG Images Without a Printer Connected

Question
Should AcroRIP be able to open or import a PNG image when it is not connected to a printer? I have been testing several different images, but AcroRIP closes or crashes whenever I try to open or import them. One image from BCH Technologies initially imported successfully, but that file eventually started causing AcroRIP to crash as well. I have also deleted all print jobs from the AcroRIP spool. Could the lack of a printer connection be causing this problem?

AcroRIP should normally be able to open and process a compatible image even when no printer is physically connected. The printer connection becomes essential when AcroRIP needs to send the processed job to the printer, but simply opening, previewing, positioning, or preparing a PNG file should not ordinarily require an active printer connection. Therefore, the disconnected printer is probably not the direct cause of the application closing.
Because several different images cause AcroRIP to crash-and because the image that initially worked later began causing the same behavior-the problem is more likely related to the AcroRIP installation, image properties, memory allocation, spool data, printer-driver configuration, or the simulated Windows environment being used on the Mac.
Clear the AcroRIP Spool and Temporary Job Data
Deleting the visible print jobs from the spool is a good first step. However, a damaged temporary file or incomplete job record may remain even after the jobs disappear from the AcroRIP interface.
Close AcroRIP completely and restart the simulated Windows computer. After restarting, confirm that no AcroRIP-related process is still running in Windows Task Manager. Then reopen AcroRIP without loading any previous job.

For example, an image may appear small because its compressed file size is only a few megabytes, while its uncompressed pixel data requires much more memory. A very large design can therefore overwhelm an older or memory-limited RIP application even when the PNG file does not look especially large in the folder.
Confirm That the Correct Printer Driver Is Installed
Although an attached printer should not be required merely to import an image, AcroRIP may still depend on the selected printer configuration and installed Windows driver when it initializes a job. A missing, incompatible, or corrupted driver can sometimes destabilize the program before printing begins.
Confirm that:

Ultimately, testing AcroRIP on a regular Windows computer would be one of the strongest diagnostic steps. If the same images open correctly on a native Windows system, the virtualized Mac environment is likely contributing to the crashes.
Check the AcroRIP Version and License

If a USB license dongle is involved, verify that Windows-not only the Mac-can detect it consistently. Prevent the Mac from putting the USB device to sleep or reclaiming it while AcroRIP is running.
Reinstall AcroRIP Carefully
If AcroRIP still crashes when opening a small, newly exported RGB PNG, reinstalling the software is reasonable.
Before reinstalling:
