Troubleshooting the "Print Error White (Empty)" Message on an Epson R1390 DTF Printer

Question:
Good morning. My printer is a DTF Printer—Epson R1390, and the error I encountered is "Print Error White (Empty)." I’ve attempted several solutions, but they keep coming up and preventing me from printing. I'm working with the RIP software bundled with the printer. Can you maybe work this out for me?

Thank you for contacting us! I'm sorry for the late response; we understand how frustrating printer errors like this can be. At BCH Technologies, we strive to deliver specific, thoughtful directions to troubleshoot your printer problems. Below, we explore what causes the Print Error White & Empty and how you can fix it.
What Causes the “Print Error White (Empty)” Error?
This error often occurs when the white ink channel is not set up correctly in the RIP software or when the color and white print settings are out of alignment. The printer knows the problem and stops printing to avoid making additional errors.
Fixing "Print Error White (Empty)"
Check Rip Software White Channel Settings

  • Launch your RIP software and find the white channel settings.
  • Check if the white channel is on and what is configured. If it’s disabled or wrongly set, the printer won’t recognize and utilize the white ink.

Check Print Settings for Color + White Options:

  • If printing an image with color and white layers, check the white copy setting
  • Ensure the white copy is not “1,” which can throw the error.
  • Set the density and coverage of the white layer according to your printing requirements. A standard set would give a more opaque white layer.

Perform a Nozzle Check and Cleaning Cycle:

  • Run a nozzle check because the white ink nozzles must be firing correctly.
  • If any of the nozzles are clogged, run a gentle cleaning cycle to return them to operation. Do not run cleanings too often, as this wastes ink and overlays the ink system.

Inspect the White Ink Supply:

  • Check that the cartridge or tank has sufficient white ink and is running smoothly through the system.
  • Ensure there are no air bubbles or clogs in the ink lines, especially in the white channel. If necessary, use a syringe to gently clear the line.

Re-Install or Update RIP Software:

  • This would fix the issue, or you can try updating or re-installing RIP software if the problem persists. Configuration errors can also result from an outdated or corrupt installation.

Printer Firmware:

  • Could you ensure your printer firmware is updated and compatible with RIP software? Firmware mismatches can sometimes cause communication issues, such as ink problems.
