Troubleshooting Epson L1800 DTF Printer Power Issues: Front Panel Button Not Working

Question:

Epson L1800 DTF printer not powering on from the front panel The power button on the very left of the front panel isn't working, but I can switch the main power from the back and it all seems to start. Everything is hooked up to the motherboard correctly and all cables are new. Do I just need to buy a new psu or is there something else I should be looking at?

Thank you for contacting BCHTechnology! Thank you for always being engaged and providing feedback, especially on our YouTube channel here: https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies. We appreciate your input, as it helps us enhance our skills and better resolve the problems you face with printers.

If you are having an issue with your Epson L1800 DTF printer, as I understood, you checked all the mainboards and plugged in the cable (I mean that it is correctly pushed into its connector) at this point. Considering that the main power switch in the back works, it is logical to check the power supply next. Also, here are a few things to check before you go that far.

1. Inspect the Front Power Button for Physical Damages

PHYSICALLY DAMAGED OR NOT MAKING CONTACT WHEN PRESSED: The front power button may be damaged, preventing the device from turning on properly when pressed. Please look over the button closely and make sure it is not jammed, cracked, or wobbly. Please use your multimeter to check the continuity of the button when pushed and opened. Replacement of the entire power supply is not necessary in this case because of a button.

2. Test the Front Control Panel:

Another potential cause might be an internal issue with the front panel. Could you check if the control panel is getting good power OR check its wiring? If it can, you should be able to run diagnostics on the panel.

3. Recheck the Mainboard:

If you have another L1800 printer, you can put this mainboard on that printer and see if it turns on.

4. Check the Wires and Connectors:

Sometimes, there can be loose or faulty connections. New cables are only sometimes the answer, as they may loosen over time, especially between the power button and the mainboard. Please review the wiring that connects the button to the mainboard, ensuring it is securely in place and no damage can be found. A single faulty connection here could disrupt how the power button works.

5. Testing with Additional Power Button

Alternatively, if you can access a power switch from another source, try using it temporarily. This can help you determine if the button is broken or if the connection is wrong. When an external button works, that means that the power supply is okay and should be isolated to the current button.

6. Power Supply Consideration:

If none of these are the problem, you may have to test or replace the power supply. But based on what you are describing, the issue appears to be connected to the power button or its connection rather than the entire PSU itself.
