Steps to Fix Slow Printer Movement of Error Codes 0xe4 and 0xe5

Question: I cleaned my printhead, and I might have gotten the chip underneath wet. Now, my printer turns on and moves much slower, and both lights are blinking simultaneously. When I googled the error codes, I got 0xE4 and 0xE5. What are these errors, and how can I resolve them?

Answer: Thanks for writing to us. I appreciate your patience in getting back to me about your question. We know how pressing printer problems can be and would like to be resolved accordingly. We at BCH Technologies are very grateful for your involvement and approval, particularly on our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Understanding Error Codes 0xE4 and 0xE5
The errors 0xE4 and 0xE5 are linked to the paper feed mechanism:

  • 0xE4: Paper Feed Position PID Overload Error
  • 0xE5: Paper Feed Position PID Overload Error

Both codes highlight an issue with the paper feed system. Possible causes include:
A Faulty Paper Feed Disc:

  • Another possible reason a printer fails to feed papers is that the paper feed disc is damaged, misaligned, or worn out.

A Malfunctioning Sensor:

  • The sensor that detects whether the paper feed is in the correct position may be dirty, dislodged, or defective.

A Faulty Motor:

  • The paper feed mechanism is driven by a motor that could malfunction -- mechanically or electrically.

Diagnosing the Issue
Your printer’s behavior can give you some more clues:
If the error shows straight after power-on:

  • If the error gets displayed immediately, your printer most likely never finished initializing the device. Since the paper feed system is most likely not the culprit, the paper feed error may come from:
  • Short circuits or miscommunication with the printer’s control board due to residual moisture on the printhead chip.
  • Other hardware issues caused the printer not to finish its startup sequence.

Fix If The Error Happens After Printhead Moved Left And Right:

  • After the successful printhead check, The printer’s diagnostics detected a fault with the paper feed mechanism.

Guide to Troubleshooting the Issue.

Inspect and Dry the Printhead Chip

  • Could you remove the printhead and see the chip area? If it is wet, carefully wipe it down with a lint-free cloth to remove any moisture.
  • Let the printhead dry for a few hours in the open air, then reinsert it into the printer.

Inspect the Paper Feed Mechanism:

  • Inspect the paper feed disk to see if it is visibly damaged or misaligned.
  • Check for any dirt or obstructions in the paper feed sensor. If needed, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it clean.

Test the Motor:

  • You can also test the paper feed motor to see if it works properly. This may involve taking apart the printer, so do this with caution or consult with a professional.

Reset the Printer:

  • Could you shut down the printer and unplug it from the electrical source for 10 minutes? The reset may resolve minor hiccups.

Seek Professional Assistance:

  • If the issue persists after the above steps, it may be worth getting a professional evaluation and repair.
