Question:
Hi Kevin, I need your help. I accidentally blew my printer, and now I need a new motherboard. I’m getting one online, but I must install the firmware and NVRAM. Do you know how to do this? Or, by chance, do you know where and how I can get one that already has everything installed? This is driving me crazy.Answer:
Thanks for contacting us! I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I know how frustrating and urgent printer issues can be, and I would like to be able to respond to you in a thorough and considerate manner. BCH Technologies would like to thank you for your support, especially for BCH Technologies on YouTube. Your input plays a vital role in improving our technical skills.
Now, I'd like to talk about your problem.
So, how would you be able to configure that new printer motherboard? Well, it all depends on where you got your mainboard from. Here are the possibilities:
Current Mainboard from a Non-Epson Source
If you purchased a motherboard from an online marketplace or third-party vendor (not directly from Epson), it should come with firmware that is pre-installed and ready to go. You can upgrade the firmware later once you install the motherboard on your printer and power it up. Firmware upgrades are relatively easy to perform and require running your printer’s software interface or following a separate firmware update app.
Epson Distributor Mainboard
On the other hand, if the motherboard came straight from Epson or one of their distributors, it might be shipped as a blank board that lacks firmware. Epson usually gives prospective buyers a heads-up about this and may ask for specific credentials (such as evidence you can use it or that you are authorized to service the printer) before they supply you with the firmware.
- If the credentials have been misrepresented: If you do not have the proper credentials or your credentials aren’t sufficient to meet Epson’s requirements, you’ll require specialized software for the firmware installation. It is also called Adjustment Software like this.
Pre-Installed Boards
It’s worth seeing whether suppliers sell motherboards with the firmware and installed NVRAM. While these boards simplify the process, they are only available for certain printers and parts of the world. If you are buying a board, check with the seller that the board is good to go before placing your order.
Installation Tips
After installing your motherboard and configuring firmware, please ensure the NVRAM is appropriately aligned and seated in its designated slot on the board. Failure to do so can lead to other errors or printer malfunction.
